Hi,

What diopter sights are available in Canada for K31?? Also, do they involve drilling and tapping, or are they clamp on or replace the rear sight leaf???

What type of shooting are you doing, or hoping to do?

Sometimes you might find Swiss W&F diopters, but getting harder to find unless you have some Swiss connection.
Try Calagry Shooting Center or personal adds.

Just beware of Chinese copies being sold as original Swiss W&F diopters on Ebay.

Swiss Products P/S diopter are available from myself, Calgary Shooting Center, Tradeex, and possibly Range Sports in BC.

None of the above are drill and tap for rear or front sight.

Hi Diopter, I don't have a K31 yet. With my over 40 eyes, some sort of rear aperture is helpful in getting maximum accuracy from a rifle. I would be using it for target shooting as I don't plan to hunt anything bigger than a gopher or rabbit which a .22 is fine for. After shooting black rifles for years, I find the concept of a sub $400 surplus gun with superb accuracy very intriguing.

Thanks for the responses. I'll check with the businesses lister. Another option is a swedish mauser since many of them at P&S and Tradeex already have diopters mounted.

Intriquing indeed. I should know with the numbers I have.
Have you used either high end target 22's with diopter sights, or High Power/DCRA Target Rifle class rifles and sights?

Expect to pay min $200.00 even for the Chinese copies.

CSC, when they had the Swiss W&F were a steal at $225.00, worth about 300-400 normally.

Swiss Products retail $375.00.±

All come with the front sight and rear adjustable iris to help you find your best focus for that day's condition.

A must if you are competiting in Match Shoots, but a scope and scope mount may be a better option for an average shooter.

Won't be able to use the diopters if your interested in "Milsurp" type matches, unless you enter the open catagory.

Would I be without one? NO.

@ GUNDOGGY:

Get the darned rifle, get a sight from Diopter, use the Harris load...... and snipe your gophers out to 300.

If you can SEE it, you can HIT it.

That's what those funny Swiss rifles are all about. I am shooting one they built in 1897; it's better than I am.

Better-LOOKING, too!

Gundoggy, I had the same problem with old eyes. I went with the Swedish Mausers cause I can get them with a diopter already on them for decent price. I had an FSR that did not have the diopter on it. Bought one, but it was not cheap. Just got a 1943 Husqvarna FSR M96 with one already on it for $384 US dollars. I wear blended tri-focals. But with these diopter rifles I do not have to use glasses to shoot. If I see a ground hog (Wood Chuck) at 300 yards, he explodes on first round. If I can see it, it is gone!
Good Luck and you will enjoy!!!

Well according to threads on this and other forums, many suggest that one buy the K31 AND the Swedish Mauser!!!

That is most likely very true. Both are deadly accurate. I just prefer less recoil of that 6.5mm caliber and the fact I can get various diopters
and parts from Sweden if I wish to. I know many Swedish collectors now and where to buy what I need fast. Including front sight inserts for tunnel sights the Swedes used most often. Shipping a part from Sweden is 1/2 or less the cost of UPS. Take front sight inserts, they come regular first class mail. I save many dollars. Same things you see on ebay from Sweden but for far, far less.

My friend buffdog up there just got a beautiful 1925 Swede from Tradeex. With diopter. I am so envious of the Swede pricing up there.

The Harris load?

That is very sound advice. Different rifles and experiences, but both excellent and very accurate.

The Harris load?

The Harris load was developed by C.E. Harris and is often referred to as "the load".

The load is thirteen (13) grains of red dot shotgun powder with a cast bullet. This load is a universal load that works in any .30 cal military round.

I use this load in .303 British, 8x57, 7.62x54 and 7.5x55. Its very accurate in my testing out to 200 yards and the recoil and noise is almost non existent.

And should I mention that they cost about a dime a shot?
