Why is just neck sizing not good enough for the 7.5x55? Assuming the brass is origanally fire formed to your specific K31.
Sorry I am new to reloading and to Swiss rifles! And I always just neck size my fire formed .303 Brit rounds
Good Question. No need to apologize.
Straight pull actions are very much like a manually operated semi-auto and should be reloaded as if they are semi-autos.
Bolt actions have enough primary extraction to break the case away from the chamber walls when there is practically no gap between them. Most semi-autos and straight pull actions will have a hard time extracting brass not sized back to minimum spec such as what a Full Length resizing die will do.
Maybe we can get Smellie to comment on steel cartridge cases in full auto military weapons to go with this
Once the neck sized case expands in the neck, shoulder and web areas after just a few firings you will have to dance on the bolt handle to get that sucker out.
Remember that the K31 will not fire if the bolt is not closed properly.
So.... if there is a LOADED, OVER-SIZED round stuck in the chamber that you CAN'T GET OUT and CAN'T FIRE, what do you do?
Better put the bolt first on safe!!!
