K31/GP 11 question

I just picked up a case of GP 11 for my K31, and was wondering about the wax (or whatever it is) sealant around the bullet.
Does it cause any problems gumming up? Should I wipe it off, or does it function fine with it in place? I'm still learning the finer points of this special rifle and ammo.

It is a sealer (Beeswax maybe?). Zero effect on anything.

I shoot it the way it comes, never had any issues with anything "gumming up". It's a great accurate round.

It is actually bullet lube. It is supposed to reduce metallic fouling of the bore. It was dropped in later production (I think in the '80s) perhaps to reduce costs, perhaps to make storage easier or maybe because it was found to be unnecessary.

It's just wax, as mentioned before. The later stuff doesn't have it anymore. Just shoot it as it is.

I'm not sure what vintage my ammo is but mine has this wax around it as well.

Very cool, all the GP-11 I have handled doesn't have that (88 being the earliest dated ones I have handled). Learn something new every day.

I had to google that stuff too when I opened my first box of GP11 a few weeks ago. If I remember correctly mine was dated '80.

My 1992 dated GP11 doesn't have the wax. My 1979 stuff does.
Both vintages shoot well from my rifle.

Depends on what I intend to do.

Practise on a 100m or 300m-target range: around 60 rds.

More dynamic stuff on a pop up target-range: up to 200.

It is not a cheap round to shoot so I usually fire off about 20 to get my fill then switch to 7.62x39 to rock and roll. Lol

Never achieved the accuracy of the GP11 stuff, though.

OUCH!........................That's gotta hurt.

I usually take 40 rounds with me to the range. Shoot maybe 20 of them. I don't make the trip to the range with less that 5 rifles at a time, so spread my shooting out over different rifles all the time.
My favorite day is "Milsurp Day".

I brought 60 rounds out today, but was thinking I needed more. Didn't end up shooting it though. Stayed on the handgun side the whole time instead.
