K31 or k98 ?

I have actually. I've also bought and sold a few over the spring. An all matching K98 in excellent condition inside and out runs $1500 or more, depending on manufacturer and dates. Even then, nothing less than $1300 in that condition.

The only K31 rifles I've seen come close to $1200 are the lovely Swiss Police issue rifles with matching bayonets.

Lots of K31s are out there from $500 -$800 with excellent bores, all matching but with a few dings.

TURF THE LIBERALS IN 2019

if anyone has a matching k98 in excellent condition inside and out for 1500 im your man! they go for double that.
i sold a k31 police with matching bayonet for 1700 last year.

good milsurps are going for a lot more nowadays than people realize. limited supply seemingly unlimited demand.

I seen several private series K31's with diopter sights sell between $1600-$1800,but these were excellent condition rifles.

Show me a 500$-800$ K31 then...

Seeing as there is some on the EE for 850$, 500-800$ isn't a crazy price, especially considering when most of us bought ours we paid 300$ for them.

Do some searching and find your own deals. If you disagree with the price that's your business, state what you think the price is and leave it. I am getting tired of people constantly questioning everything everyone posts on the milsurps forum. This is why people tend not to post or share on here anymore as they get nitpicked to death. 'Show me a example', if it was that easy then you wouldn't need to ask for a price range. Certain things only show up briefly and if it is a good price it doesn't stick around.

Picked up a beautiful all matching k31 at Proline two weeks ago for $600. Just cannot go wrong with these. I have a couple run of the mill k98 rifles still, but honestly as cool as they are, myself personally I cannot see the value in a $900 RC or even a 3k matching anymore. Maybe I'm just getting old.

I like carrying an shooting the K98 better. Find it slimmer and easier handling believe it or not I prefer the action. But that is all entirely subjective.

Only answer is both.

The k31 and the k98 are both fantastic rifles, as others have said the k31 is a superb piece of Swiss craftsmanship. It is an extremely accurate and fun rifle to shoot! The gp11 ammo is still fairly cheap, normally around 400 for 480 rounds give or take. On the other hand the k31 doesent have the war history that the k98 does. The k98 is a great rifle if it's still in good condition, most I have seen have been used pretty hard! So if you get a k98 make sure that you take a good look at the bore! I recommend checking out the Russian capture k98s, they are cheaper and you don't have to worry about shooting them! Ammo for the k98 is a bit more expensive then gp11 but it is still easy to find. It runs about 30 a box.Expect to pay about 800 give or take for each rifle! Good luck on your purchase, hope this helps!

K 31's are great. I just saw one at a gun show down here in Texas, asking price $900, rather outrageous. I got my six about 13 years ago and paid 69-79 each and wish I had bought 20 or 30. GP11 is fantastic ammo. I also have an earlier 1911 Schmidt Rubin and shot the best iron sight group I have ever shot with that combo. The only bad thing about the GP11 is that it is Berdan primed, so it makes reloading a problem. I put in a stock of I think Norma brass so when I cannot get the GP 11 I will have something to reload.

I honestly have not shot a 98 Mauser. I do have a Yugo 48b if that's close enough, and an old Turkish Mauser. The Yugo is accurate, the Turk not so much, neither as good as the Swiss. The 8mm kicks harder than the 7.5 Swiss, but not by much. I have at my gunsmiths a custom Mauser, on a Mexican Mauser action in 7x57 which should be quite nice when I get it like I want it. I picked it up a gunshow last weekend and it came with a full pictnanny rail for a scope mount, just does not look right on a classic looking sporter. 24" E R Shaw barrel and a fantastic looking stock, chocolate walnut with a lot of black swirls, along with rosewood forend and pistol grip caps. Whoever did the job left the original military trigger and that is going to be replaced with a Timney, so I can get rid of the 6 lb pull and get something more like a good sporter needs. Both the gunsmith and I did some independent measuring of the existing receiver holes drilled for that ugly bridge mount, and contacted Warne and determined that their Mauser mounts will go on without any more drilling, so I will end up with 2 piece scope bases, more access to the magazine for loading, and will put my scope in QD rings for convenience.

honestly, I like the mauser but the K31....it feels like a Laser with GP11 ammo.

It makes me learn the difference in build quality. All the parts work perfectly well together. (its all the small things).

It is my favorite rifle so far and If I want to improve my iron sight shooting, now I know everything is on me so it feels good.

My K31 is the most accurate rifle I've ever shot - and that includes a Ross MkIII. I don't know exactly why, but my K31 is just an awesome shooter.

I call it the Laser Beam for good reason - I suspect its accuracy for a battle rifle won't be topped until laser rifles are invented.
