K31

I'm currently 2000km away from home for the holidays and don't have any pics on my phone for your viewing pleasure however if someone on this thread or elsewhere who is interested in seeing my work I'll happily send you some detailed pictures when I return home on the 30th. I would be happy to discuss your restoration ideas with you.

From WSS? I've been nervous about pulling the trigger rifle unseen....

After getting my second K31 and finding it shoots like a dream I stopped worrying about the stock condition. I just got my third this month and it still shoots just like the first two.

There's aftermarket bluegrass stocks out there if you just happen to want to replace it.

I just picked one up about 3 weeks ago at the Brandon gun show! I'm going out to wolverine supply tomorrow and I'll bring it too put a few boxes down the pipe!! Next it a 1911 swiss!!! Love these guns!

All the talk about the Swiss K31 on this and other gun forums finally got to me. I googled the K31 and found out that a local dealer had them on sale for 299$. I drove right down bought one. I did irritate the guy behind the counter by making him haul out about a dozen guns for me to inspect before I made a decision. I went for the first one with a walnut stock. When you add in a bayonet, cleaning kit and 960 rounds of surplus ammo, I am into this K31 thing for around 1000$, but who’s counting. Now I am thinking about clamp on scope mounts.

Your doing very good price wise if you got all that for 1000$

No oil tacfoley?? Soooo I shouldn't have put mpro7 on the bolt??!!

I expect that was somewhat tongue in cheek.

Here is a English translation of the Swiss army manual for the K11 and K31.
Worth reading, and remember what condition these rifles are in after many years of service and private ownership using these guidelines.

Btw: No one I know of Swiss heritage from the Swiss rifle clubs uses a pull through for their target rifle.
Only single piece steel cleaning rods to grease, de-grease and eventually solvent clean the barrel after a few hundred rounds

No dice , but I will shoot a few rounds off in your honour. :)
If I do decide to sell it , you will be the first to know .

I'm looking to buy a hunt camp this spring , so I may need to part with a few things.

Cheers

I have fired off approximately 300 rounds of the GP 11, with the remainder of the 480 round purchase scheduled for Jan 1. So far, my impression of the rifle is that it is by far the most accurate milsurp in my collection.
The rifle, unaltered in any way and using the irons, shoots minute of angle or better at 100 metres freehand. Well in line with my shooting ability. At 200 metres things get a little wiggly for me. Shooting freehand with no support, I was all over the map(6-7 inch grouping). Changing to a shooting stance where I was shooting from the bench with the rifle supported only by my elbows I was looking at 2 (4 inch) minutes of angle. Changing to shooting from a Caldwell bag, I was back to one minute(2 inch) of angle. I never tried 300 metres, since I could not even visualize the paper target due to the very substantial front sight post( too big for my liking). How those Swiss compete at 300 metres with standard sights I have no idea. My hat is off to them. For me, I would need diopter sights, or an attached optical scope.
Out of the 300 rounds today, I had two rounds fail to ignite, or more correctly fail to fire. Inspecting the rounds I saw that there were two indents in the primer indicating that the pin struck the primer. Not sure if this is a rifle issue, or an ammo issue. The FTF could have been caused by incompatible grease in the bolt assembly slowing down the pin? I am using a grease that is the closest thing that I could find to what the K31 needs. If there is a source in Canada for the appropriate grease please chime in.
My honest impression of this 68 year old milsurp rifle is that I will be looking to acquire more as they become available.
My honest opinion of the surplus GP11 ammo is that I will also be looking to acquire more as it becomes available.

The Swiss know their firearms. I am very happy with this purchase and would not hesitate to purchase another numbers matching rifle sight unseen even though, the beech stocks are guaranteed to be beat up beyond my preference. The bore on my rifle is superb, the action is also 90 percent. So for what truly matters these milsurps are bonafide!

Swiss rifles are magnificent.

More likely the misfires were due to bolt was not completely locked. just should have pulled back the safety ring to recock and fire it again without re-opening the bolt. first firing actual causes the bolt to properly close for the following attempt.
Safety feature, you know.

The Swiss targets usually used(same size and rings as the ISSF 300m target) is = to 21 inch black circle on white background at 300m. About the width of the front post.

10 ring is just under 4 inches and the X ring just under 2 inches.

I've noticed more FTF with the colder weather. I haven't greased the bolt, just been using oil. I'm learning that this may not be the right thing to do - so what is a grease I can use that is readily available? I have thin high friction bearing grease I use often on my mountain bike headsets and bearings - will this work okay?
