K31's in .30-30? Factory done or aftermarket?

Over the years, I've seen tons of Swiss K31's chambered in .30-30. Was this done at the factory? Or was this done to all these rifles after the fact, similar to how all those Enfields were converted to hunting rifles over the years.

I have seen a K31 chambered in .308 but never .30 WCF. The only ones in 30-30 are 1889 as far as am aware. The ones in 30-30 have sleeved chambers FYI.

As Dsiwy says, this modification seems to have been done only to the Schmidt-Rubin 1889 rather than K-31.

How are others who have this rifle, managing with that huge rear sight that only goes down to 300m?

You just need to make the front sight taller to compensate.

The 1889 was never rated for high pressure GP11 ammo so for the most part it was useless for most sportsmen. The sight on the 30-30 versions where replaced with hunting sights and the barrels chopped.
