k98 back sight wiggles

the rear sight on the k98 i just picked up has about 1 mm movement to the left and right, the pin is tight at the mounts, is it a weak spring? i don't think the spring is the orig, its not blued and doesn't have a sn

I had a K98 that was all original and matching, and it did the same. I think it's inherent in the design/manufacture. Given it's intended purpose, it didn't matter all that much.

1 mm movement left or right ? Thats a bit of movement. I just tried my Mausers and didn't notice any real movement. Try taking a picture of the rear sight and the base mount, there might be something else causing this.

Then again, it could just simply be the manufacturing process used to make it. Is your Kar98k an early, mid, or late war make ?

A few of my Mausers had wiggly rear sights, in fact, I've only seen three or four that didn't wiggle. Crappy design.
