ok, I am posting here because I figure this is where I will find the most knowledge about my question. And that is where can I find a bayonet for a k98 rifle? The rifle in question is german ww2 waffennampt marked that apparently made its way to Israel (go figure) where it was re-worked into .308 and other minor mods (sporterized?) The rifle is a friends and I heard him mention how he would like a bayonet for it seeing as it still has the attachment points. I sorta owe a favor and I think this would be a good surprise for him. I don't want to part with my bayonet (I got it years ago) and so am looking around. It does not need to be museum quality, as long as it looks decent and stays on when its supposed to (and comes off). Sheath also not necessary but would be a bonus. I would also settle for a reproduction if such a thing exists. So where should I look and also how much can I expect to pay? I paid $15 for mine IIRC at a flea market. I now wish I had picked up the other 4 or 5 the guy had.

K98 bayonets shouldn't be terribly hard to find. Where you are will have a bearing though. Marstar is listing Yugoslavian Mauser bayonets starting at $30. Don't know if it'll go on a German rifle though.
The really daft thing is that flea markets can still be a source. Surplus shops usually have 'em too.

The Israelis also modified the german k98 bayonets by changing crossguard + adding a muzzle ring.Here's a link to see what they look like.

I got one from a guy in BC last week who collects, real nice example. Got it through the dreaded EBAY though as I couldn't find one here. If you want the guys name I know he still has atleast one. German ones will not fit the Israeli 98k. Send me a private message and I can give you his name and number if you are interested. They are getting pricey.

I just did a comparison between my Israeli one and the German 38 not 39 Berg & Co. and the slot on the German Berg & Co. one is slightly bigger. I now believe you are right about it should fit as I also remember having a nice german one I sold a few years back that did fit the Israeli rifle.

I lubricated the bayonet and manipulated the release button for awhile and now it fits. Sorry for the misinformation folks, it won't happen too may more times
