K98 cleaning rod?

Hmmmmm that does kind of suck. Are you sure you got the right rod for your gun? I bought 2 off Ebay for my K98K's & they worked fine.

I'm sure its for a K98. IT came as a package with repro sling, real hood cover (which doesn't fit, and real 12" cleaning rod. As well as locking screws. The rod slides in fine but won't thread at all. I've tried cleaning it with solvent etc. Did yours easily thread in on the first try. Im afraid of damaging anything else. My K98 is a 1040 and have heard that these realier models used the 10" rod. But I'm sure the threading would be the same?

Is your k98k a Russian capture rebuild? If so maybe the Russkie's buggered the threads somehow. Take your rifle apart & take a good look at the cleaning rod socket. Maybe the old one was rusted in & they broke it off?

It may well not be the rod, but like glang1 said, could be the piece the rod screwed in to....

I bought a 12.5 inch repro cleaning rod from IMA Usa and it fits perfectly. The one down side was the import fees but I ordered more than one item to offset the fees, including some original 98k muzzle covers that also fit perfectly.

Hope this helps.

It worked! I took out the nut part and cleaned it and reversed it and now it works fine. Seems like the Russians may have tried to drill another hole as it had 2 holes, the correct one and a buggered up one. Anyways, I'm happy that it is in place.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments.
