Hey guys,

I've had a 1935 S/42 G all numbers matching k98 in my collection for a while, and I'm just wondering what your guys opinion is on her and what you would estimate for reasonable market value (I have no plans on selling, just curious). She did go the through the German arsenal system probably sometime between 1940-1942, and got a new stock and barrel that were then matched to her.

Here is a link to a whole wack load of photos of her:

A reworked gun is tough to value, especially without a depot marking. We know it’s legit, but not being 100% factory, it hurts the price big time. If it was 100% factory matching 1936 it could be $4k. With replaced parts....$2k maybe. I’ve been collecting 98k here for a decade, and I can tell you, collectors here don’t tolerate or pay for guns with issues. It seems like there’s two categories and few in betweens. Guys like myself who want perfect no issue guns and will pay a premium and then guys who want just a Nazi rifle. There isn’t a large enough group of dedicated 98k guys to support good prices on guns that have a small mm or depot reworks etc. I mean something really small like a safety or ejector can be overlooked sometimes, but a new stock and barrel is a big rework imho. Not to say it isn’t worth more, but based on my observations this is my opinion.

Thank you very much for your response! Ya everything you say makes sense. And your evaluation is right in the ballpark of my thoughts as well. Its so hard to gage the value as I so rarely see matching k98’s come up for sale on the EE. Is there anywhere else that one could go to get lines on proper 98’s for sale?

Ya thats what I thought. Can it be pretty well assumed that most proper k98’s in Canada came here as vet bring backs?
