K98 Help *Lots of pictures*

This isn't a WW2 K98k. The receiver is clearly a Czech post war receiver, not Mauser Oberndorf and the barrel is post war EG. There are some WW2 parts like the byf trigger guard which is a very late piece made at Mauser Oberndorf because it doesn't have provisions for the locking screws. It would never have been numbered originally so it was easy for the EG or Czechs to add the serial at the time this rifle was built/refurbed.

So they would of used a "fresh" receiver? What could explain the old serial number that they tried to ground off? Just a left over part?

Any markings in the wood under the buttplate?

And other numbers stamped in the barrel channel?

And markings on the bottom of the receiver?

No markings underneath the buttplate, but it is painted red. There is also an H stamped on the wood in the barrele channel, and there are no markings on the bottom of the receiver but where it connects to the barrel it also is ground off like the top.

Originally that receiver would have had the Czech rampant lion crest on it. It was scrubbed off for whatever reason. You see these receivers on lots of post war Czech builds. Some think it was to hide the origin of the rifles but then why leave the side rail markings? It's obvious where it came from. I would suspect it was renumbered when it went through the refurb.

Ok thank you guys for all the help, I just wanted to clear up all the confusion I had with this rifle. You have all been a big help! I am going to be taking it shooting this weekend so I will see how it shoots!
