K98 re-blu?

It was only new............once. Over time the as found and original look is something I have grown to appreciate.

Just refinish the stock and let it go at that.

Not good advice.

OP, if you can't handle the way your rifle looks, sell it and put the money towards one you do like, unless you like flushing money down the toilet or throwing it in the garbage can with the refinishing products.

Get some boiled linseed oil and apply it to the stock with either 000000 steel wool, very carefully or with a soaked cloth rag.

This will help get rid of the loose dirt and grit on the stock and if you're lucky, some will soak in.

If you cut the BLO 50% with acetone, it will clean and penetrate better.

One thinned down coat of BLO and let the stock sit for a week or so in a warm, dry, well ventilated area. Repeat a half dozen times.

I see stocks on many rifles, whoes owners decided to take the finish back to the wood, without removing any wood, by sanding. Every dent shows up as a black mark.

Any refinishing, enhancing, drilling, sanding, bluing, varnishing, humping or dinking on a collector rifle drops value.

Leave everything as is.

I assume this rifle is a vet bring back cause it has a duffle cut. At some point some @$$h0le cut the bayo lug off so i assume any damage value wise has been done

That is an easy and quick fix, just one replacement part. It may even be a late war one since they removed the bayonet lug. Do as Coyote says and don't mess with it any further

Photos would help... but sanding, refinishing, etc., will all kill the value for an advanced collector.

I don't mind duffle cut, I don't mind worn in the field / from military use, I don't mind battle or shrapnel damage.

But I do mind bubba messing with history.

However, the caveat is, if there is active rust, or damage from negligence, then it should be addressed as least-invasive as possible.
