Hi,

I'm going to put this on one of my Mauser sporters. What kind of scope ring height do you think I can use to get the lowest cheek weld? Low, Med, High Leupold standard rings I'm going to use.

.
The height of your scope rings will depend upon the diameter of the objective lens bell of your scope, and possibly the mounting location of the scope. On the pictures you provided, the scope is mounted forward so that the safety is behind the rear of the scope, thus allowing room for your fingers to get enough leverage and clearance to turn the safety.

It would seem that there are a lot of these "sniper" safetys coming on the market. Trade-Ex here in Canada is offering them for sale at $35 each.

Thanks for your response. I am going be using a Leupold VX-II 3-9x33, older model.

The Leupold rings have the following diemensions. You have to add the base height to it.

High 0.400" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube) - Leupold #: 49904

Medium 0.270" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube) - Leupold #: 49901

Low 0.150" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube) - Leupold #: 49898

Super High .500" (measured from base of ring to bottom of scope tube) - Leupold #: 49907

From memory. the bases are something like .200 front and .350 rear.

Any ideas?

are you talking about putting this on a military k98 or a sporter ? do you have pictures of the rifle? is the rifle already drilled and taped ? does it have a military front sight? will the scope need to clear it? , need more info..

It's actually a Husqvarna 640 (FN 98 Commercial) action that is already drilled and tapped with the traditional FN spacing. No charger hump. Bolt is bent and swept backwards to clear scope.

Looks like this rifle:

You already have a Husqvarna side safety on your rifle. Unless it is broken, dont fix it. It is probably a much better operating safety than the one you propose to use, and a lot handier. Simply to install this type of safety just to look "cool" is a backward step.

Sorry, mine is not like that rifle I posted. I didn't notice it had the slide safety. Mine is a military style wing safety.

x2 get the lowest rings that will allow the front bell to clear the barrel and the bolt handle to clear the rear scope bell. depending where you are ,it might be easier to have a gunsmith do this and bore sight it.

The repro versions of that long sniper safety will require some fitting. The ridges that help prevent the safety from accidently going between safe-ready-unsafe were made too steep.

There are some other Mauser safety's that are simply cut or ground shorter which might work better. These are found on early K98 snipers and many other Mauser snipers/sporters.
