Hello All

I want to begin my next project. Converting one of my Mausers to a close to authentic Sniper varient as possibel without breaking the bank.

I've seen many different kind of scope mount systems mostly on freakbay both orignal and repros. The repro systems are in the hundreds of dollars and the others in the thousands. This is not even the scope!

I am partial to the turret mounting system. Does anyone have info on the what, where, why, and how to help me rig up a k98 as close as possible to an issue sniper ??

Coles Distributing sells repro scopes and mounts.

I suggest you use a refurb if you do this. Also, try to use a make and year that could have been a Turret sniper originally ;)

Another option besides Coles would be to get a 'close to authentic' high turret mount from either Robert at K98.com or Bob at IronElite.com. They both run about $450 US I believe but are working turret mounts. Another option, slightly cheaper, are mock turret mounts that Iron Elite make. The rings open on this mount to allow the scope to be mounted.

One thing to consider on authentic repro high/low turret mounts is that the scope has to be disassembled and reassembled/soldiered into the rings. Unless you have the know how on disassembling old scopes, I wouldn't suggest trying on your own. The mock turrets are a nice compromise as they almost look the same (besides the rings) but you can mount your scope by opening the rings.

As far as a scope, if you are going period correct, you would need to find a Zeiss Zielvier, Hensoldt Dialytian, Ajack 4x90 or a Kahles Helavier. Those were the most used. Ebay is likely your best bet for these but they won't be cheap ($300 US+). There are other prewar scopes with steel tubes (Oigee, Busch, etc) that will look correct as well. Avoid the post war scopes that have the mounting rail integral on the bottom, you will need to find custom claw bases to fit them.
