K98 sporter possibilities

I have this K98 available for me to buy. It's sporterized, but I am willing to restore it to somewhat original configuration. All missmatched. Bolt needs some work. Just want some comments if anybody has gone through this procedure. Doesn't seem to be scrubbed of it's markings so maybe not RC. Comments appreciated. Bore is good if you look thru it...but a borescope shows some rust .

This looks like it needs work. Not sure what the crud is...kind of shiny.

What is this mark?

I'm not too familliar with Mauser's but when it comes to a sporter I'd only bother restoring it if the majority of the numbered parts matched but that's just me.

I don't mind a nicely sported rifle, if the damage is already done so be it. I just picked up a sported no4 LE, I'm tempted to keep it as is, I won't mind beating the bush with it while I look for the missing LB parts.

Could do something like this.
 
this rifle is reblued , the marking on the barrel is most likely from who ever did it. personally . I would not put much money in to this project rifle . If you were to put a new stock on it, from say trade ex canada .
you would still only want the cost to be about the same or less than , one of there Yugo k98s.

Mines re barreled because Its chambered in 762 nato. Also mine came drilled and tapped by some bubba. Mines got a section thats pitted 3/4 down the barrel and it still shoots 1" 3 shot group. But with miss matched numbers I wouldn't really worry too much.

Ok, it's not rebarreled..it's 7.92x57 original. My question is what is that mark on RHS of barrel front of receiver. 24G1...or 24C1...do others have a mark there?
 
It is a WW1 Mauser (the M98 gives that away). You will have a lot of work infront of you to return it to arsenal condition. For the sake of your sanity and wallet, I suggest you leave it as a shooter and shop around for a rifle in less sporterized condition. As much as you might want to be heroic, some projects are not worth the effort.

The receiver is WWII,I have a K98 from 1943( bnz ,Steyer,Austria)with mod.98 on the side as well,also the Nazi markings were not used in WWI.

I got a MOD 98 action with 1945 on it.
