I have a K98a made in 1917, the gun was pulled out of the stock and dropped in a Canadian military sniper stock then fully bedded.
My understanding is that the full wood stock was tossed in the fire place and the metal bits all lost to time.
Is there any hope in every restoring this? It is not a K98k so no repop stocks around and no metal bits that I know of are being made available.
My thought if this cannot be brought back is to put a scout mount on it and use it as a scout rifle. The bent bolt will not clear a regular scope and the flag safety would have to be modified too.
There does not seem to be any mounts to put a scout mount on it via the rear sight either.
Thoughts?
