I have a K98a made in 1917, the gun was pulled out of the stock and dropped in a Canadian military sniper stock then fully bedded.

My understanding is that the full wood stock was tossed in the fire place and the metal bits all lost to time.

Is there any hope in every restoring this? It is not a K98k so no repop stocks around and no metal bits that I know of are being made available.

My thought if this cannot be brought back is to put a scout mount on it and use it as a scout rifle. The bent bolt will not clear a regular scope and the flag safety would have to be modified too.

There does not seem to be any mounts to put a scout mount on it via the rear sight either.

Thoughts?

Fox-Military makes repro stocks, I think they have the K98a. Their stocks are very high quality.

If the barrel hasnt been cut and the bolt handle not modified I would not modify it any further. If only the wood and metal bits are missing its a good candidate for restoration. There is some fun in searching for the parts

Ya, the small metal bits are missing, it would be better to be restored if possible.

I went back to my friend to see if he has the metal bits, if he does and all I need is a stock then this Fox place is a candidate for sure.

Spain made a rifle that was a close copy of the 98a and is often confused with it.

The parts are all interchangeable and I believe parts for both are available from European outlets as well as Numrich and maybe Sarco

You may want to find out the delay of getting a Fox stock as the owner is ill.
Some are saying on other gun forums anywhere between 1 to 3 years to get their stock after it was prepaid.

He got back to me, said no prepayment, he said it would be 10 months.
