K98k Cupped Buttplate Removal

Any of you guys got any helpful tips for removing a very tight fitting cupped butt plate from a k98?
I assume the laminated wood has expanded with moisture.
I figure I will turn a couple copper drifts and try tapping it off unless someone has a better idea.

I have one where some one used a screw driver to pry between the wood and buttplate.

Don't do that.

Maybe an oak block or something to tap on it?

If the stock is good or just curious about the buttplate, leave it on if you risk doing damage to it.

Otherwise bang it off with a 50 pound sledge hammer.

Try using a hair dryer on the metal. Then a few smart raps. And try to remove it. I've had luck using this method.

Thanks for the tip. I want to change it out for another as the present plate has post war markings on it.

put a small diameter screw driver in the screw hole, on an angle, and lightly pry it up.
