Which Mauser 98k is the best quality?? Im going to my local gun show soon and i want to find a good k98k.

I have a dou44 98k sporter and it seems excellent quality. IS there any other 98k better quality?

:welcome:

I think every person has their particular favorite. But all in all. I believe the wartime k98 rifles all have the same general excellent quality control, but may vary with fit and finish.
The DOU is one of my favorites as well:) Good luck with your search.

Generally speaking the rifles manufactured later in the war were a lot rougher cosmetically than the pre and early war guns. I think things really began to slip, finish-wise in 1943 and worsened from there. I find BNZ code K98's to be some of the worst finished of the late war rifles.

Would have to agree with Joe-N, all the K98K's followed a very stringent production requirement with the best barrels pulled for sniper variants, Mauser was in the game long before the war as was Sauer and a few others and all firms produced fine rifles for the German military machine.

An matched rifle should take precedent before the manufacture in my opinion.

Early war K98's are better finish. Mauser, Sauer, Gustlaff and Brunn made some of the best quality rifles. Styer made some of the most interesting.

There are many variations, but if you want a good rifle, look for a good bore and try to find an early production rifle.

However even RC's with good bores can shoot great.
