K98k prices

I only buy matched originals and mostly in the USA,
And correct, you need to be on the ball. Luckily most guys into k98k will oust a faker or bad rifle willingly and quickly but you still got to know a lot.

Mismatched rifles are good for learning and shooting but as far as collecting, most guys want matching.

Not interested in slagging any individuals either just a warning to new K98k guys to be wary. Prices for German marked and matching rifles have climbed so high that fakery is rampant and in the U.S. it is much worse. I have heard from a few dealers that Nazi items are so often faked and some are of such a high calibre that they do not deal in those items any longer.

I have seen big name dealers that have been dealing in German K98k's and other milsurps for many years selling horrific fakes as legit and when contacted about it ignored or scorned my help. I suspect these dealers that refuse to deal in German items simply aren't educated enough and haven't done their research as is obvious with the dealers I've seen selling crap. Fakery is rampant but with a little research and training it is still pretty easy to spot on most items.

I don't have any experience with SS stuff, high end helmets, or awards but with the K98k's I collect it is pretty clear whether something is legit or not 99% of the time and those that aren't obvious can usually be picked out by those specializing in certain makers fonts/patterns. The community is very helpful that way and does not tolerate fakery. Those that are busted doing this sort of stuff are outed.

I see zero reason to shun collecting matching K98k's or many German items because of the fakery. Do your research, get involved in the community, and ask for help and opinions on items you are interested in. There are many people willing to help out new collectors and do so freely.

As always, any one considering buying a matching K98k is free to contact me with any questions.

Most Norway refurbs had new barrels and mods for 3006.
Coastal arteillery and Air Force I believe were still chambered for 8mm.

They typically had the receiver re numbered as well as buttplate. Other other numbers were left alone.

Army - .30-06 - Most Common
Air Force - .30-06
Navy - 7.92
Coastal Artillery - .30-06
Police (G33/40) - 7.92 Some for sale lately, rare and expensive.
Railroad - Both K98 and G33/40 (For killing game wounded by train) - 7.92 The rarest ones, marked with locomotive number it was placed on. Not sure if any of these made it into private hands. These rifles were removed from trains in 2007 and just recently reinstated in some areas. The rifles were placed in a wooden box with ten rounds of ammo, bolt was kept separate and it was the responsibility of the engineer to pick up the bolt for his/her shift. A major issue in Northern Norway were Raindeer are kept as "farm livestock" Millions of dollars (NOK) are paid to owners of killed raindeer each year.

http://digitaltmuseum.no/things/gevr/NJB/JM008108 - Sorry, In Norwegian but nice pic of a NSB specimen

The rifles rebarreled to .30-06 had a notch machined in the fromt of the receiver to accomodate the longer round.

Taking a renewed interest in these rifles ;)
