Stopped in at the Leduc CT the other day and some K98s caught my eye... at $650ish a pop. Didn't have a closer look since I was pressed for time.

Did some poking around the EE and the vendors above and didn't turn up any hits, but I wasn't looking too hard. Just with what little time I had to burn.

Anyone have any insight as to the going rate for a German Mauser?

Good to know. Thanks a bunch guys! Found a few on the EE that were lower in price, but once you factor in shipping and taxes (where applicable) it works out to about the same.

To think I sold my 1940 dated RC with intact Swazs and beautiful finish for less than $600 before the recent batch of RCs came on the market.

These ones either have ground off markings, peened swazis or straight bolts from captured VZ24s.

Will we ever see the days of $450 RCs again I wonder ?

I know Russia has a massive stockpile of them, and they are only selling groups of them at a time to keep the price high. I absolutely refuse to pay $650 for a RC. If it means I end up missing the boat, no tears will be shed. Lots of other beautiful milsurp rifles to be had with that money.

Same here. No matter how hard I try, I just can't justify paying that. I mean, you could get an Israeli Mauser in way better condition for much less (Really, any other kind of Mauser from a different origin).

If you're interested in spending that much money on a milsurp at least look for one that has most of the German markings intact. The Russians ground or otherwise destroyed the swasticas and other military markings on many of them, but it sounds like there's the odd one they missed.

All RC's are missing sight hoods, capture screws and cleaning rods. So factor those into your budget if you want to assemble a complete rifle.

Or you could be of the opinion that RC's are complete the way they come. I personally don't add rods, hoods, or capture screws to my RC's because that is the way they were reworked by the Russians and to me modifying the appearance makes them less correct.

I agree there are lots of nicer condition milsurps out there but do they have the history of the RC K98k's?

As I said, how about Israeli Mausers? German origin, used in turn by some of the very people the regime wanted to get rid of.

Russia used to have a big stockpile. It isnt like that anymore. Importers here and in the US are both saying that its slim pickings, hence the rough condition and straight bolts this time around. They have been consistently been giving away or selling their captured mausers since before vietnam......

Those k98s at the Leduc CanTire are actually in decent condition compared to others I've examined lately...

There is an interesting one I have been humming and hawing over there too....

It's a Russian Captured Polish Wz98a converted to K98 specs.... It's in very nice shape, and a rather rare find too...

Problem is, I keep buying more SVT40s there rather than K98s....

Someday... ;)

My sentiments entirely. I'm not prepared to spend that sort of money on the beaten up old tat that's going around at the moment. History? Maybe, maybe not. Certainly doesn't make them better guns.
I wanted an example of a fine Mauser and chose a peachy M96 Swede for a lot less than the RC's are going for. Mine has been around for 107 years and who knows what stories it could tell. So I'll enjoy and nurture it until it gets passed on to the next owner in what is likely to be a long line.

RC K98's sell for $400 in the USA. That's all they are worth, not a penny more. The extra cost here in Canada is profit, markup, tax and import fees.

I could squeak by with $400, just for the collection to say I have a German K98. Wouldn't collect them at that price, considering the bare average condition most of them are in.
