Kaboom at the range today.

foxbat, could this have been due to a bore obstruction?
Possible, as it was the first thing that crossed my mind as we were all standing around doing the 'debrief'.
I was the one that managed to get the thing apart by popping out the front
take down pin...
The bore was clear...but at this point, I don't believe the owner has had the
handguards off to look for any bulge.
It's beginning to sound more like a bad round.....

I would say that it happens to ar's simply because of the high volume of shooting that is done with them. Although Im not sure if its posible(I don't exactly know how the ar feeds, hope to get one in a month) but my guess is bullet setback, and posibly a already weak bolt?

Whose ammo was that - the gun owner's or the borrower's?
The borrower's, unfortunately!
I'm happy to give guys a trial of my units...They usually offer to use their own ammo...I prefer that they use mine...then there's no 'question' if there's
a 'mishap'.

Glad to hear that no one was hurt... On the "feeling liable" for the kaboom... It's a grey area in my books... The owner allowed the shooter to borrow the gun and to use factory ammo that the borrower had...

I'd think the borrower would be liable only if he had stuffed homerolled rounds into the borrowed ar15... Otherwise, the borrower is left holding the ball for a mistake Seller and Bellot (spelling) made when they manufactured the ammo... Assuming it's a factory ammo problem...

Cheers
Jay
