Kaboom dangers

Hello,

A quick hypothetical question for the gurus here. Would a catastrophic failure in an ar15 (over charged round, 300blk loaded into 5.56 etc) be inherently more dangerous to a left handed user? With the ejection port being right in front of the users face, would it channel hot gases, shrapnel to that side of the rifle more so than the other side?

Your input is appreciated.

Thank you

Sometimes, maybe

With a kaboom - who know which part will give first...nobody know. It does not matter if you are right handed or left handed.

In that case - ouch - the strong side of the receiver gave up - you would have think the side with the ejection port will have been the weak side but no..all bets are on.

Maybe a little, but most venting usually occurs straight down, through the magazine well. More importantly, venting is radial, blowing out perpendicular to the axis of the the rifle. Left handed or right handed, the shooter's head should be back behind the receiver, not adjacent to the bolt, and for that reason there should be no serious injury provided safety glasses are worn.

what caused the tavor to blow up? loaded wrong type of ammo?

Federal blamed IWI and the Canadian distributor blamed the ammunition. At first I thought it was an OOB issue but the more I investigated the more I figured the ammunition definitely had something very wrong with it.

That’s a very telling photo indeed. From what I’ve seen in looking at pictures it does appear that the mag is always blown out and a lot of the venting goes downward. I have also seen damage on either side.

I know what while shooting lefty I end up sucking in a lot more smoke than right handed folks do (you can really taste it on your lips lol). So it got me thinking that in the event of something catastrophic, all the shrapnel and brass and gasses May follow the same path. Was just a theory but I haven’t found anything to support it yet

Do you have an Ar-15 bullpup?

no i don't! i was responding to the post by battlerife, not the op. i will quote to ensure clarity from now on! his post seemed generic, the statements therein applicable to all firearms, such that i felt comforatble expressing my inner fears about holding the action so close to my face. my cousin had a 50cal bullpup; personal nightmare!
