Kaboom in Glocks

ive got a gen 2 g17 well worn has approx 15K thru it now by me and probably 5k from the orig owner

no problems

i recently had it upgraded by glock (basically all new internal parts trigger ect)

as there was an outstanding upgrade on it for free

only problems ive ever had are fail to lock open on last shot with several of my glock mags

I shoot 9mm 115 JHP handloads

I have a 1st Gen G19, which I have put 5000+ rounds through with no issues...I do have an aftermarket barrel, but the only reason the factory barrel (with 5000+ rounds through it) was replaced is so I could convert it to restricted. I've fired thousands of rounds through other factory 9mm, .40, and .45 Glocks, and never noticed any of these "signs" on the brass. I'd say someone is setting themselves up for a lawsuit from Glock...notice the "events" described; no details as to when, where, etc. I vote BOGUS!

i really dont like these threads, makes me second guess my glock, especially now that i did the trigger and it doesnt rack as smoothly as before. im paranoid it will become part of this post accompanied with pics of destruction

Nonsense. Any gun can blow up with improperly loaded ammo.

Also, why is your slide not racking as smoothly after trigger work? Are you sure you didn't screw something up?

Correct.

Sounds like someone? did some stoning/sanding/filing to the trigger bar extension or bar tail or connector. Careful doing anything to the trigger bar. Especially around the extension where it meets the firing pin safety. #### with that and you easily can produce an A.D. when not wanted. (kind of a redundent statement, as that is kinda what an AD is and they are never wanted, but you get my meaning).

Did you notice half way down the page the pistol with the spit grip was an HK and not a glock. Funny thing is , i can make any firearm explode, i wanted to. I torture my glocks with heavy hand loads, with no problems this is BS. Check this out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6WUSnALoRc
Did you notice that in the case of the HK, it was a double charge that did it? Pretty much any pistol would be destroyed by a double charge. Glock kabooms are a totally different issue.

Basically the 40 round is put in a bored out 9mm barrel, and there were no manufacturing differences or compensations for the 40 ammunition. So the walls of the barrel are thinner, therefore having lower tolerances for over-pressure, poor maintenance and careless reloading. Gaston designed it perfectly as a 9mm and should have left it at that.... Just another reason to shoot 9mm....
Doesn't the glock warranty only say shoot factor ammo?

Just wanted to point out that the reason it may look like it happens more in Glocks than any other pistol is just because of the higher ratio of Glocks out there compared to any other pistol.

Hmm... that must be exactly why you CAN'T fit a G22 barrel into a G17.

The barrel walls are not thinner, but I know what you mean. Glocks are not the only kind of pistol that uses the same size for 9mm and .40.

Please have a look at the link. There are Pictures
Just to clarify. You can hotlink anything you like EXCEPT for firearms-related businesses which are not CGN sponsors. That also applies to certain on-line polls where you may not want the source to know that you're "from" CGN.

Paraphrasing of course, and I am no expert, but that is a simplification I received from some LE instructors. I imagine there are specific details to stop interchanging barrels/parts improperly that make the barrels non-interchangeable. I am referring in general terms to the fact that I believe the outer diameter of the 9mm (which has no documented KB) vs. the .40 barrel is the same, but the obviously larger .40 round requires a larger hole, thus an overall thinner (weaker) barrel for a more powerful "flinch producer" of a round. Simply, the dimensions, steel, and sizes of the glock were designed for 9mm. The .40 was added as an afterthought.

Second guess Glocks? Please, I personally second quess any pistol that doesn't say Glock on it. I trust my four with my lives!

You are all too smart. What should I do if I can shoot just lead in my Club?
Where can I buy lead 9 or .40 S.W today?
There is backstop issue

Amen to that.

As it was pointed out any idiot can blow up a gun. Most are due to bad reloading practices...Put a double of Titegroup in any gun and its going off like a handgrenade.

I know all the Glocks you see on the internet Kb'ed seem to indicate a trend but remember how many there are in circulation.

Me, I don't worry too much. I practice discipline when reloading and inspect all my brass extra carefully before using it again. Any pressure signs or defomation of the case and it gets recycled. This eliminates 99% of the possibility of a kB regardless of make.

On the bright side, at least the tupperware doesn't seem to penetrate the hand as easily as steel when they kB. The most gruesome injuries always come from the metal guns from what I've seen.

I know one guy that had a case rupture in his G27, lot's problems reported on US forums of case ruptures in .40cal, although I never heard of one with the 10mm. I have also seen lots of swelled cases from Glock fired .40cals. If you shoot factory or new case standard reloads it's highly unlikely you will ever have a problem. Plus keep in mind there are a lot of glocks out there and ever incident is likely repeated on the internet about 10 times as new incidents.
