When shopping for iron sights for my flat top AR build, I was in a bit of a pickle.... I was going for a fairly lightweight build, and I really wanted to build a no frills gun that got rid of most of the bells and whistles that seem to rack up and turn your sweet little rifle into a 12lb monster.

One of my wants was to have a gun that I had the option of putting an Eotech or 1-4x scope on, but I didn't want to run optics full time, I like the idea of a plain iron sighted AR. My eyes are still very good and I can use irons as well as optics to well past 500 yards.

That settled, I wanted a good pair of iron sights. Not plane jane back up irons that feature very little adjustability... some have adjustable windage, but require a tool to adjust elevation. Being able to adjust elevation is critical to using irons as a primary sighting system, so my search pretty much led me to either putting on a standard detachable carry handle style sight, a standard detachable AR rear sight, or the KAC sights. With the two former sights not being very accommodating to 1-4x optics, I settled on the KAC sights and started the process up with One Shot Tactical Supply. (Thanks guys, you were super to deal with!)

There are far cheaper BUIS on the market that fill most peoples needs, mainly as a back up iron sight system, but for me the KAC micros fit the bill for me.

The very narrow front sight post is another bonus for me, as it will help with accuracy when stretching the gun out a bit.

Without any further talking, here are some photos and a quick video on my initial mounting of these solid and well built sights.

Compared side by side with a pair of MI BUIS...

Looking through the MI sights... Large aperture...

Small aperture... Note that you lose most of the front sight through the small aperture...

So... initial impressions are that these sights are expensive as hell, coming in at double the price of most good quality BUIS on the market, but if you want really small folding sights that are built incredibly strong yet lightweight, the ~$400 price tag while too spendy if you are the kind of guy that puts a set on his gun and never even zeros them... may be just what you need to finish off your dream AR build.

All the controls are firm yet easy to use, so you won't accidentally move your settings if they brush your clothes or rub on a bench, bump another gun in the safe, etc.

Fit and finish is perfect, as you would expect from anything in this price range.

Aperture is perfect for me. Fits the front post just perfectly. I personally dislike the large and small aperture designs that are so common with the AR platform, I prefer one that works at all distances.

Expensive, but worth the cost of entrance for a group of people looking for primary irons that can still fold out of the way when you want to use optics, or just for the guys who want top of the line BUIS.

Feel free to ask any questions you may have on these sights!

Want an extremely low profile, fully adjustable sight in traverse and in elevation out to 600 meters? Magpul MBUS Pro. Widely available and at a decent price.

These things fold so low I don't even.

Yep, the MBUS was originally on my list of potential sights, but I far preferred the the adjustments on the KAC. Both are good sights though, but I preferred the KAC route.

agreed, once you put these on a rifle it's hard to look a anything else and think it will do... if you are using your irons that is.

I need some KAC micro front and rear sights.

One shot has been out for months it seems.

anyone knows who has these intock in Canada?

Just send OSTS an email, they were out of stock but pulled a set off their KAC rifles for me to save me the time of ordering a new set.

Since OSTS is the sole distributor afaik, you'll likely only be able to find used otherwise.

Worst part about buying a KAC rifle?

Realizing that all of your other iron sights are junk... hahahaha

I have never owned a KAC rifle, but my Modern Hunter is trying to become an SR25. Lol

I took a look at what the SR25 has that I can bolt onto my MH to make it as close as possible, so now it has KAC M4 front and a USMC marked 2-600m rear. Suddenly all my Troys leave me wanting. Still have to zero my Kacs and Elcan, but I can already tell I will love both.

how balanced is it with the elcan?

For those with the MBUS Pro LR, does the elevation only click in the 100yd increments on the dial or does it use a consistent click value like on the KAC?

Hm that's not sounding very promising. You'd think something marketed as "long range" would be a bit better than some hoky BDC BS. Hopefully the adjustments are fine enough to not need holdover/under to make hits. My front showed up and I'm in love, hopefully the rear isn't a one-size-kind-of-fits-all deal.

Starting at 200m, it clicks for every 50m, up to 600.

If you really need fine-tuning under 50 meter increments for a 5.56x45mm rifle, I think that folding sights isn't the thing you need.

I would have to disagree, look at the adjustments on the KAC. 50m increments is great and all but not when they're calibrated to a random load rather than giving 1 or .5moa adjustments to compensate for load and conditions. Just like an A2 rear which is marked in 100m increments but rather than having detents at 50m increments it allows the shooter to adjust for a different load or weather. Being a folding sight has nothing to do with it.

KAC are very nice sights! I do have a few sets of the Magpul Pro's as well but did have one front sight break on the Pro's. Was more than a little disappointed considering what they cost. Have not heard of this happening to anyone else, so may have been one of those rotten bad luck deals.
