Kalashnikov admits to German help on the AK

Yes. Russians took the design of the front sight from Germans.... That's all. All other parts and the way of operation is different... HK33 has more parts in common with Sturmgewehr 44 than AK and Sturmgewehr 44 has far more Russian solutions from SVT40...

PS. Quoting junk sites from Internet is just stupid too.... Especially blogs!!! Yellow press newspaper is like New York Times to those blogs.

PPS. From technological point, AK has more in common with Garand M1 rifle.... ;) and that was officially recognized even back in Cold War time...
Stupid or not, it invites discussion from gunners. FWIW the site that I dragged this from got into a pissing match in 3 posts. It took 3 pages on CGN. Skol MoFo!

So how come I got so much flack on this site when I argued that the AK-47 was basically copied err sorry "inspired" from the STG-44?

By the way I like the STG-44 better :p

You people talk like capitalists who think Russian rifles were designed by freethinking individualists.

Edit: More SKS replacement candidate pics:

They all have the same barrel length, for example. Not a coincidence comrade.

Plus here is the AK-46, with SKS gas tube and separate piston:
