What do you guys think of the kalinka side mount's for the sks? I was looking at these or the chaote side mount the kalinka seems a little more practical for field stripping the rifle.

I put a side mount on my norinco sks years ago for my 8x42 POSP SVD scope. The 2 problems i ran into were: the scope is far too big for the sks (the ergonomics for stock to shoulder and eye relief all thrown off) and if you attempt to drill and tread the mount on, I found there wasn't enough meat on the side of the receiver for the machine screws to hold. I ended up welding the machine screws into place. This required a bit of sanding and grinding with air tools after to allow the bolt to slide.

Thinking about it now, I should look into a smaller AK style scope or red dot.

Mr. Tea, did you have to take out some of the wood from the stock when you installed the side rail? Thanks

Could we get a pic of the whole gun from the left side? Interested in how it looks.

Also, that mount you used sits the base out and away from the gun. How is it for having the scope off center? Also, if you were to want to mount the scope over the centerline and low, is there enough room on the reciever lower down to mount it and cut out the stock to fit? Or is the rreciever too shallow vertically to get the scope low enough? (My sks isn't here to look at)

Agree, 8x42 is too big for SKS. Any 4x24 or 6x24 would work just perfect. I found it very easy to drill and thread. All installation took no more than 15 minutes...some picks:

Thats not the same side mount I used. I used the one that flat mounted to the receiver, this required nibling the stock. The one pictured looks like hangs out over the stock, correct ? Is it possible for a shot without the scope on ?

Can you post a pic of the side rail,I'm planning to buy a kalinka POSP scope but don't know what kind of rail to get.Thank you again.
A molot rail?

The Molot mount looks as if the scope latching point is lower than the Tula. Can you tell us if you can get that mount and at what price? A small 4X POSP would probably fit better due to its reduced length.
PP.

careful kids....

the slight offset to the left is a good thing...

A scope directly over the bore might get clobbered with ejecting brass if the scope is long enough (looks like a POSP is...)

That IS a groovy mount though....I likes
