Can any of you from southern BC tell me if there's any public (or friendly private) land around Kamloops where I can hunt chukars? Not to worry, It would only be a day or two every couple/few years. The north side of the lake looks promising on Google earth, but I don't know the area or any locals.

Feel free to PM if it's a sensitive matter! ;)

North side of Kamloops Lake would be good.
Come in from the Savona side or wander up and around to
Copper Creek and hit the tracks from there.
You could park on the south east side of Savona where the river
comes out and head up the tracks from there.
Wallachin, Deadmans area and such.
Make your ears work.
Chuchuchuchuchu..........
If you bring a hound, put a set of needle nose pliers or Kleins in your
back pocket. Cactus...

Many thanks. I hope to give 'em a try this fall. One of the things I like about chukars is they let you know they're around! Years ago I hunted them around Big Bar, but it's now off limits... :(

There are tons along the railroad tracks in Walhachin and Semlin through to Ashcroft on the south side of the river. Must see 50 or so every time we go through there.

I went chukar hunting this past weekend. .. I got lots of exercise.

After a 10 hour drive, I met up with a couple friends and we checked out the Walachin area. Saturday was a bust... howling wind really didn't help. Walked the tracks, the flats, the fields, the hills, the rock bluffs and found nothing other than a few spent shells from previous hunters..and fields of cactus! Not one chukar was seen or heard. Sunday morning had much better conditions... and I heard one chukar call, but couldn't pinpoint him and the dog didn't find anything. Seems like either birds are scarce this year, or there's just too much pressure on them... also, there's plenty of ground away from the tracks that they might be hiding in... I dunno.. more scouting would help, but it's a long drive... thanks for the tips though... nice country down there.
