Not sure where to put this but here it goes. Anyone interested in doing a little clean up at the Batchelor Heights Range? If you've been out there in the past couple of weeks/months you will have noticed that the garbage is starting to pile up. I just thought this might be a good place to organize a clean up.

Cheers,

TeachBC

There is a thread also in the Events section but thought it would get more attention if it were here.

dude if i still lived there i would be all over that, however moving to the island made a difference in my abilitys to get there and back

thanks for your effort, but its a mess most times, i think it may be time to close it ,, people have no respect,,wade

I was there over the weekend and there are people that do clean after themselves... met 2 groups that both cleaned up after themselves. Most people respect the range but then there are those who don't. BTW who the %#&@ shoots at a couch??? :bangHead::bangHead:

If I was in town this weekend I would come give you a hand.

Best of luck to you guys...

I was there on Monday. I figured that the mess makes shooters seem like pigs and is a poor witness for shooters and hunters. I can pitch in and bring a truck.

ATTN: Arcadia

I'm up for this weekend if we can get a few more people it won't take long to clean up. Plus if we are out there we might be able to "convince" others to pitch in.

The range is located just off the Lac Du Bois road. Just head towards Batchelor Heights and when the road turns to gravel you are on Lac Du Bois road. From there you go about 0.5-1klm and you'll get to a big gravel pit on your right. Keep going straight on the road for another 100 meters until you get to a sharp right hand turn in the road. At the corner on the left you will see a road going down. Once you get there you will see on your right hand side 2 benches. If you can't see the benches just look for the couches and other garbage lying around. Hope that helps. If not just take a look on google. The last time I looked on google there was a picture of a white pick up at the spot.

Is this a legitimate shooting club? If so, usually the directors will organize a general cleanup like we do at our club. We have been fairly lucky as I haven't seen a computer monitor or too much junk shot up recently. The main problem is people shooting the outhouse etc. There are always some rotten apples in the bunch IMHO. Good luck on the cleanup.

It is not a "shooting club" it was built there to help curtail the meatheads that were dragging garbage up into the grasslands to shoot and then leave.......at one time it was a nice facility, FREE for public use.
Sadly it turned into a real eyesore in short order and does nothing to aid in public oppinion of shooters....turns to a real gong show the week before hunting season opens.

Good for you to try and clean it up........I've helped cleaning it up far too many times to mention, somtimes on my own, only to see it return back to the disgrace within a week ! No one gives a crap, broken glass everywhere, shot up tv's microwaves whatever you can imagine, it's dumped there and shot up, then left ?

I gave up and focus on the Private Gunclubs now, it's a much better spent time and money on your part.

I sadly agree the place should be "removed" :(

While I agree that it's an eye-sore and an embarrassment on the reputation of target shooters and gun owners. My issue with having it closed is that it will only force people to go off in search of other areas, thus spreading the garbage out into numerous locations instead of one.

One only need look at it to see it certainly accomplishes that, or at least lessens the garbage spread around for sure.
But with Two Gun Clubs in the loops do we really need this eyesore right inside city limits, on a well used public road inside a sensitive Grassland Park ?

It's a shame people don't look after things provided to them through others hard work.
Best of luck with your efforts.....been there done that too many times, gets really tiresome cleaning up after slobs indefinately.

I do applaud your efforts...shame everyone doesn't feel like you.

My only choice was to join the local shooting club but it was well worth the $50.00 to join. We have organized shooting events and the range is basically policed by the members. Safety is number one. I imagine the spring cleanup is still a ways away but I was out there shooting some test loads and the range condition is not bad. I find people will generaly try to get away with what they can unfortunately. I admire our board members who try to keep a handle on things.

Regardless of how many other ranges there are the facts that it is free and never closed create desirability. Closing it and others like it is a short term solution to a long term problem.

And drive up the road 5 to 10 km. and all you see is garbage, people won't spend $$5 bucks to go to the dump..join one of our 3 great clubs in town it would be money well spent and you would add your voice to the gun community..

White pickup is actually a washed out green pickup with a black canopy....don't ask no idea how that happened and half way down is a person walking back or to the 100 yard mark.... I refuse to say HOW I know....but I do..... That is unless it's a EVEN newer picture then one from the summer of 2009.
