Kamloops gun show

I watched that Chinese couple drop $15,000.00 on 3 minty Portuguese Mausers. The young woman had a small gym bag, full of cash and when her husband told her to hand over the money, she just reached into the bag, grabbed a handful and started counting it out. They bought a couple of 95% Long Lees as well. They only went after the best stuff. With all of that money, they could afford it.

I wonder how they collect so much cash? They go to shows all over western Canada, that are within a days drive of Vancouver. I saw them performing in Chilliwack a few years ago as well.

They were operating at the Penticton show as well-pests with lowball offers that I and others shooed away from our tables. I saw them at Kamloops buying a case of ancient US GI bore solvent in the original Anniston Arsenal wooden crate.

I picked up (stole) a minty Type 99 Arisaka that looks like it was never fired for $100, and for a paltry $50 a Bubba'd Winchester P14 (great bore) that I am planning to restore to era original.
My buddy and I were there for the whole weekend, and we both were kind of disappointed at the outrageous prices some of the vendors were asking. ($400 for a "hand picked" refurbed russian SKS??? Lever has 'em for half that!)
I personally thought that the Chilliwack show was more interesting and varied for the most part. I was searching in Kamloops for a Mauser K98, and the only one I saw was a Russian Capture worth maybe $300, but buddy wanted $750...wish I woulda grabbed the one in Chilliwack I saw for $275 when I saw it, but I was tapped....:jerkit:

It's to bad the mum was ground on that Arisaka. I know, it's just part of the rifle's history but they sure did rough work. Other than that, the rifle was very nice. The seller is a good guy as well.

I know that "tapped" feeling too well, my friend!

Try going to gun-shows when your total budget is a disability cheque that pays half of welfare!

But it can be done..... you just collect JUNK instead of JUNCQUE.... just as much fun, just not in as good condition!

Too bad you missed on that capture 98k. Some of them look like crud on the outside and are really nice inside. A friend of mine has picked up 2 of them; one is a Sauer, the other a Gustloff. NOT shabby!

Now sing along with smellie....

"There'll always be a Gun Show,
No matter where we be
And there's something at that Gun Show
Just for you and just for me....."

(Sung to tune of "There'll Always be an England", of course!)

Yes, he was a decent guy-was he the one that had the beautiful Garand sniper? I almost crapped myself when I saw that specimen!!!
I talked with the registered owner of the Arisaka on the phone to get the transfer #-apparently it was a wartime bringback from his Gramps, and it had a bayonet that got lost along the way.:( After doing some research, I found that mine is an all matching Series 33 from the Toyo Kogyo arsenal. Apparently the (short) cleaning rod alone is worth $100 to a collector...I definitley got a good deal on this one!!!!!!:D

No, the fellow that had the sniper shared the tables with him. The sniper was very nice by the way. The scope mount was a repro and so was the sling, that's why it was so cheap. I had a close look at the barrel and scope base as well, on a previous occasion, the barrel looks to be one of the units sold by Sarco out of the US about 10-15 years ago. It was worth what he had on it, no more. By the way, the seller of the sniper is a stand up guy and would have told you all of this if you asked. Both of those fellows are great to deal with and honest.
