Hey guys I walked into a gun store today to find a Kar98 AZ labeled as a k98k. All numbers I could see matched (stacking swivel, barrel band etc. Screws. Bolt is still in the white. Stock had serial in stamped at the wrist on the bottom. However the stock had obviously been sanded. Metal did not stand proud. Stamps were visible but faint. Bore is good. It was an erfurt 1918. They were asking 1000 what do you guys think? Neat rifle but the sanded stock bothered me is that in the ball park?

Depends on a lot of factors but any complete wartime k98 or k98az seems to bring at least $1000 these days if not higher. A different rifle - but RC K98ks seemingly sell in the $1500 range.

I called back and bought it apart from the sanded stock the metal was nice. I have a k98k (vet bring back). And I think it's lighter. Have to get them side by side thanks guys I'll post some pictures when it shows up if interested.

I'm waiting for pics too!
Not often you see a kar98 or a gew98 for sale.
A russian capture k98 appears to have become quite expensive in the last few years.

Sorry there's some doubles it's got a really good bore I counted 20 serial numbers without disassembly. Really handy carbine. Stock has been tragically sanded but some cartouches remain and serial matches no cracks. I'm amazed by the weight difference between the kar98 and k98 and compare actions (small ring vs large ring) what else should I be looking at?

The sanded stock and the slightly bent stacking hook hurt value a bit overall, but for $1,000 I’d argue you did exceptionally well for an all matching rifle. I don’t see a 1920 mark either which is typically a plus. The Kar98a looks like a very nice rifle many here would love to own!

Very nice rifle!

Nice looking AZ, are the numbers matching ? Out of curiosity, what are the suffix letter (s), if any, under the serial number ? Erfurt made ~348,000 AZs in 1918.

All numbers match its repeated (I recounted) 22 times on the rifle (missed the front sight blade and a screw) it has a cursive R under the serial. The more I handle it the more I like it. I'm almost starting to feel like this rifle got a little glossed over for the k98. I want to compare it to a no 1 mk3 and see how they would have stacked up in the trenches.
