Kar 98 Russian Capture Approximate Value

It was hard to sell mine for 750$ in feb. 2019. Today a regular one will be sold in one day for 900$. If you have patience will go for 1000-1100$. Dealers sel for 1300+tax.

I understand the days of 650$ RC’s are gone but seeing asking prices of $1500 Or $1800 really blows my mind. That being said asking and sold for are often quite different. That rifle is a little rough, especially when compared against the average RC rifle and the safety issue doesn’t help, even if it’s not a major issue to most shooters or collectors.

Price wise I think you’d be lucky at the 900 mark to be honest with the condition of it.

Not to dump on you or your rifle but it is very rough. I don't think it is worth more than around $500 in that condition.

I have seen K98 go for ridiculous prices. Bad condition RC for over $1000 is not uncommon. Dealers asking over 1300

As bad of condition as mine? Based on what I’ve seen around it seems 8-900 is about the spot for this one as of today

If someone pay 900 buck for a RC in that shape i dont know what they are smoking but i sure want some haha

I’d say a really nice condition rc would go for about 1000 to 1200 dollars privately on the equipment exchange. Dealers are asking 1500 plus taxes, so roughly 1700 when everything is said and done. That being said yours has seen better day’s. I would imagine it would sell for about 6 or 700 at most. Best of luck on the sale!

Milsurp prices have gone completely dillusional if RC K98's are going for more than $500. They were $300 when I started buying them. Refurb Mosin's and RC K98's are not $1k rifles. And yes, I own both.

I do agree that a lot of Milsurp prices have become dillusional here.

I don’t know why people think rising milsurp prices is so crazy. They aren’t making any more WWII rifles so there’s nowhere for the price to go but up. Eventually, just finding one for sale (RC or otherwise) is going to be rare.

There isn’t an unlimited supply of them and lots of people want them, so that really influences the price. For years the mosins were priced for next to nothing and now they are finally going up in price. Look at enfields, years ago they were a couple hundred dollars. Now it’s hard to find a decent no 4 under 800. Years down the road when the supply of russian capture mausers completely dry up, the price they are selling for now will seem cheap. Get them while you still can.

If you think like that, you will never buy a new house.

Correct me if I’m wrong but
Limited supply + time + demand = rising prices
The age of these rifles being valued based on functionality is long gone

Collectability and value are not strongly related to supply. My 1988 Pontiac Tempest is a rare car on the road these days (they've all rusted out or fallen apart) but I won't be getting collectors bidding on it. There will always be a hard ceiling on value for all sorts of refurbed/ rebuilt milsurps. I'll use SVT 40 refurbs as an example- I started collecting them when they showed up in large numbers but after owning a few I rapidly lost interest in having more than one of them. They have virtually zero originality and are best looked at as a functional example of the type to include in a diverse collection. A few guys may drop big bucks on one (through lack of knowledge) but there won't be a serious group of collectors working against one another to drive the average price steadily upward.
