Anyone here hunt from a kayak? I think its something i need to try. Ive been browsing various sites i know i want a sit on top no longer than 12' and in a camo or neutral nature color. Stability is a high point as i float about as good as the titanic.

I hunt out of a Riot Edge 13... I've covered alot of water in this boat... I bought a pair of them for an anniversary gift ten years ago and immediately saw the advantages for ducks and moose hunting. I enjoy the stealth advantages and access benefits of a stable kayak.

Yup, did pretty well on waterfowl in a Hobie sit on top with a pedal drive system. I am about to switch to a canoe though as a float hunt for moose is high on my bucket list.

Spent a fair bit of time in canoes and kayaks, although probably no where near other members. Actually about to make the plunge into the world of Sit on top fishing kayaks. Looking at the Ascend 12t and 10t since the seem the best price locally for the features I know I want without sinking over a grand into another toy. Sorry for the hijack but do any CGN members have experience with either that would like to help?

You can take an entire bull out in a 16' Trapper style canoe.

If it's not too heavy for you Old Town's solo canoe Next might be suitable. It has a seat with a back rest low in the hull and foot braces so you can use a double-ended paddle and paddle it like a kayak, but the hull is open so you have more capacity for gear and the game you take.

I looked at and liked the wilderness atak 140 but its $2100+ tax. Im thinking id use a shorter lighter one more as i could just throw it in the box of my truck. I have a 6'7" box. Id prefer to not have a roof rack. One i dont want to scratch my paint and two i have trouble lifting my left arm over my head and my titan on 33s is pretty tall

I think id feel better with a sit on top style as i cant swim or hold my breath for very long

Any relevant info in this thread is a good thing.

I have a pelican boost 100 sit on top. Painted it camo and I use it for ducks on the creek at the back of our land. Works great but I have no real open water experience with it, although my better half uses it in the summer on some local rivers.

Another happy owner of the pelican boost. I use mine for lake fishing for trout, and leisurely paddling around. Haven't used mine for hunting and its only got a weight limit of like 300lbs so likely wouldn't get most folks too far big game hunting. Still Great value, mine was $300 on sale. At that price you can try it out and if you don't like it you're not out a lot of money.

Nothing made by Pelican is quality... Pelican's niche is "inexpensive", but my 2 cents is invest a little more and get a quality boat.

They are definitely an entry level item. Something to get your feet wet and figure out if it's right for you.

Im leaning towards the pelican premium catch 100

I would look at a 12 foot if you're going to spend that much coin. I'm not a big guy and I wish my 10 was a bit bigger.

+1

Pretty much a polished turd at best.

Kayak wouldn't be much use for big game....unless you get a tandem. Then you could probably take a Moose out in 2x trips.

I would opt for a Y-Stearn Goliath Canoe. You could put an electric trolling motor or a 5 H.P 4 stroke and go forever on a single tank of fuel.

They can hold a max of 1500 pounds.

The reason i am leaning towards pelican is the weight and i can throw a 10' er in the back of my truck
Its not something im sure i want to get into yet. I was at pelee wings and liked the atak140 and theres others that are well equipped for 1600$+
My nucanoe bruchure came in the mail today and the fronteir 12 looks appealing

I want it for duck hunting and fishing small ponds amd creeks in northern ontario and for bowfishing around southern ontario. My buddy has a pelican boost he bought really cheap. He likes it but wishes it was bigger
So far each store ive called or gone to recommends their brand and says all other brands are garbage
I admit im leery of a canadian tire brand but the catch 100 offers everyrhing i need.
Im planning on attending several kayak tryout days around swo
