Kayaks

id love to take my dog as she loves water and boating. However she is 170lb english mastif so ill use my 18' lund to take her out

Depending how big you are it might be possible, some of the sit on top kayaks (or tandems) hold upwards of 450lbs. Costco had a pelican tandem for under $600 last week I want to say.

Im 170. My dog is 170. Graceful and agile are words not associated with english mastifs lol. She rocks my lund around. A pontoon is more her style.

My Springer is 120 pounds lighter, but she is in my canoe regularly and rides in the rear compartment in the kayaks... but she is a hunting dog and is very used to being in boats.

Does the pelican have a spot for your savage axis?

I have been thinking of buying a smaller fishing kayak, that 12 foot trapper canoe looks perfect though. I have a lot more experience canoeing than kayaking. Can't find anywhere nearby that sells it or a similar model sadly.

My mastif loves being in boats but anything smaller than my 18' lund is to small for her. She likes to dunk her big head over the side into the water. Shes also not an athletic breed by any means. Loves to swim but cant swim far. She will retreive geese and doves if she sees them falls though

I dunno man, I've never thought about taking mine out hunting. We do over-night camping trips with our Pelicans, and there's adequate storage space in the front and rear storage areas, plus rear deck for tents, bedrolls etc...
Depending on the size of water you're looking at a canoe (see previous posts) might be the way to go.

I have several makes and models on my list. None are available locally or at pelee wings but im going to sign up for their kayaking level 1 course and just try ones of similar size and shape to what im looking at. Seems quebec has the best prices in canada but thats a long drivehowever it would give me an excuse to go thru new liskerd for poutine lol
Bonafide ss127
Old town predator mx
Pelican premium catch 100 are the top 3
There are others id like to try as well but it will alot of driving around the province. Wished i lived north of toronto

Pick a kayak in your price range available at Pelee Wings, buy it and enjoy your summer.
The small differences that you are seeking in the ones you have selected will end up unimportant.

The differences are hull design that effect stability.
The only kayak they have i like is the atak120 which lacks way behide the old town and the bonafide. Im going to renew my passport as i just noticed it expired and i can try all 3 for myself.
Pelee wings does have great service ill give them that

I have a old town predator. Good yak but it is heavy as mines at 100# mark the way I have it rigged. Very stable and the chair is comfy and lots of room in it. For most quick fishing runs I. Use a 10 ft perception sit in. Lot lighter at 50# and is very stable and storage room in the back but. I toommfor the dog

I fish from a NuCanoe Frontier 12, about as big/stable/wide/safe as you can get in it's price range. They market them as a fishing/hunting kayak with some interesting..hunting-related accessories. I don't have many photos of it..but their site does a better job anyway. :)

After considerable research and checking out well over 20 models ivr narrowed it down to 2. I almost bought a pelican catch 100 however i liked the features of the jackson cruise 10 and the lure 10more. They have a better hull design. I wasnt able to locate a cruise 10 in person but its one i think id enjoy.
Many of the top end makers such as jackson are starting to make their kayaks from the same material as pelican in various models to reduce weight

Ive decided ill buy 2 kayaks. I need a 10' for what i want and really liked the ocean kayak big game prowler2 and old town predator mx so if my wife buys a pedal drive boat that shes become interested in since ive been dragging her across sw ontario looking at kayaks ill need a faster boat.

So to start with a 10' its between the jackson cruise and the feelfree lure 10'

For a longer boat its ocean kayak big game prowler or old town predator mx or jackson cuda

My wife is really digging the pedal drive kayaks right now. So this kayaking thing may get extremely expensive

Bought the wife a Pungo 120 (angler package).

Great kayak.

Very comfortable and cockpit is largest I have seen yet.

Would be nice IF they put a storage bulkhead in the bow.(only complaint)

We have a couple Pungo 12's at the cottage, and I agree, they are a great little kayak.
