I've been thinking... Id like to have a Non-Restricted AR... but THAT not going to happen anytime soon. Ive been a huge fan of the Bullpup rifles since I can remember, but Id never have the Cash for a real one, like the Tavor. I was thinking about trading in my AR to get a T97 and one day do the FTU and LHG mods.

AR-15

Pros- Very Ergo, aftermarket support is endless, very accurate for a battle rifle, pretty much universal

Cons- cant take it in the bush legally and have fun with it.

T97

Pros- Well Balanced, Bullpup design (love it), cheaper compared to the Tavor and other Bullpups, NR so can take it anywhere...

Cons- ERGO's, little aftermarket parts/support, fitting of Mags (some), costly to make it more functional (FTU and LHG)

I'm on an extreme budget (eg dont want to pay range membership fees or range fees when I want to shoot).

Lemme know your 2 cents! Please keep the criticism productive and professional. Thanks!

I like the T97 handiness, price point, and cool factor but these points concern me.

1. Long term reliability

2. Availability of spare parts and support

3. Possibility the Liberals will just restrict or prohibit it any ways

4. Overall comfort and egros

Why I will keep my AR?

1. Super reliable after 20 years of shooting it

2. Very accurate

3. Natural pick up and shoot layout

4. Choice to use a conversion kit as .22 is way cheaper and punching static targets with 5.56 at 25m while standing still makes no sense.

5. Lastly parts everywhere for this gun, sears, hammers, springs, mounts, stocks, optics

So no thanks I will just stay with my trusty old school AR with an alloy sliding stock and irons, but I can always screw on the scope if needed helps to keep a table coaster sized group at 50 yards.

Not sure about the range membership costs compared to ownership of a $1,000+ rifle and all the costly ammo. to feed it. A range membership is only about $10 to $20 a month averaged over the year so about the cost of one box of ammo. for a .223 (per month). Which is a small price to pay for supporting all the firearms owners out there (yourself included), because w/o these ranges then ownership of an AR or a handgun would not be possible and we'd soon be left with bolt action hunting rifles as are only choice for a firearm (something to be aware of).

Now it's really hard to think of an extreme budget when talking AR's or Bull-pups, but I guess since you want to be frugal and avoid range costs then there is no cheaper and I do mean cheaper bull-pup then the T97 (that I'm aware of in Canada right now; however the Kel-Tec .223 is coming soon, but will no doubt be a higher price then the T-97) so your choice is simple if NR and Bull-pup are to be your only agenda.

Based on your CGN joined date I can safely assume you are already a member at a local range, what kind of shooting you are planning on doing with your semi auto that you can't do at a club? Perhaps looking at a different club that is more black rifle friendly might be more appropriate. ;)

Based on my personal experience as the owner of two NR black rifles and 3 restricted ones, the only rifle I take out to the bush is my bolt action Remington 700 .308 to do some real long range work and a T-97 is not a platform I would select to do any long ranger precision work.

People always post the idea of the taking their gun out to the bush weighs heavily on the decision of what rifle to gets, I always say " all the years you have had your license how many time the opportunity of going to the bush was presented to you and you had to say no because you don't own a non restricted firearm?" than select the rifle based on that :)

That's what I used to think until recently with the Swiss Arms/858 fiasco.

If it were the ar15 going prohib theyd already be gone. Theres a reason we were able to put up so much of a resistance against the rcmp on the swiss arms. Think of the armijaeger before the end of the lgr those guns were swiftly taken
