Going rate here in Edmonton seems to be $40 for a 20L pail. That will have 120-150 pounds of wheel weights in it.

Thats gonna vary with the market price for metals. I have two buddies with garages. One feeds me for free, the other asks for $10.
A 20L pail is much more than 150# because a full 20L pail can not be moved by me and I am no 98lb weakling. I drag two 1/2 full pails to the car and ruin a good pair of underwear lifting them into the trunk.
If you have your car serviced at a local garage the guy should give or sell them to you cheaply. I think the scrap metal guys pay $20 for a 20L pail, they then turn around and sell it to you for 3X the price. It is almost as lucrative as selling drugs and it is 100% legal.

You have to do this for the hobby fun. There's no way picking up 9mm brass spread over 10 square meters of gravel and sand can be considered enjoyable..
