Why did that thread just close? Our regulations in Ontario state that we must utilize the pelt of a fur bearing animal, but as the last post stated in the thread that just got closed, it isn't always necessary, not even in Ontario.
If you are shooting a coyote to prevent any damage to property, or potential damage you are not required to keep the hide, just like most other provinces.
Ontario is no different than any other Provence when it comes to that stuff.
Since when did a moderator get to close a thread just because they think they have the last word? It is a great topic that deserves to be discussed without bias, regardless of how important some people think their opinion is.

Why did that thread just close?

Because false information was being posted. The regulations are not the same across the country so it is pretty hard to have one blanket post.

This would be a great thread to talk about Ontario and keeping coyote hides

Fair enough, but the regs are the same on this particular topic.

So is it fair to say that this following statement is the full truth:

they are a fur bearing, therefore its illegal to allow the pelt to spoil, or be abandoned

fur bearing mammals include raccoons, foxes, skunks, weasels, opossums, and wolf/coyotes

If so that is fine but that is not fully the truth in Alberta. If it is not right, please correct it for this thread about Ontario.

Certainly.
There are two issues here, one is recreational hunting, the other is "Problem wildlife", as you provide the regulation quote for in your last post in the closed thread.
Here in Ontario a recreational hunter is required to utilize the hide, unless it is a "problem animal". If you are shooting the coyote to protect property or livestock you are not required to touch the thing. There are a couple stipulations though, like being the property owner, but the bottom line is that there are circumstances that allow someone, like me, to dispatch coyotes and leave them where they fall.
Your regulation quote also referred to "problem animals", not recreational hunting. I can not make head or tails of those regs(Alberta's), so I may not be reading it correctly, but I do have a very firm grasp of ours here, in Ontario. And I know, without doubt, that a coyote can be shot and left without breaking any laws, provided of course that certain criteria are met.
Also, I had no idea the OP was from Alberta, his profile makes no suggestion as such.

Now that is not true at all. Come on CD, you know better.

If you hunt in the "Green Zone" in Alberta, during the open season for Coyotes you are legally obliged to salvage the pelt. It is right there in the regulations.

Your right. I was trying to find the map but I couldn't.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

OH OH,better close this thread too.;)

If that was the case, then I can see a LOT of threads on CGN being closed..

Having wrong information is not a reason to lock a thread.. You will find that threads with wrong information are almost always corrected later in the tread by several posters..

Just pretend you missed ;)

I'll give any coyotes I shoot to anyone that wants the pelt, but I'm not going to waste my time skinning it unless its an absolute gorgeous coyote with rare colourings, black or red or pale.

So where do you take them? Who wants them?
I could skin them, no problem.....but I do not have the skills to perserve the pelt or make money on it!
Any ideas?

any licensed trapper would probably be happy to take a skinned coyote pelt from you, assuming its only got a tiny bullet hole, you did a good job skinning, and NO mange

I dont know of any trapper forums, but I do know that theres a trapper section on the OOD site... try there?
