Sorry for the noob question but was thinking about personal safety in the home. Is it ok to keep a loaded mag all the time in a locked safe at home? I figured keeping a loaded mag would probably damage the spring from keeping it compressed all the time months on end. Recommendations?

Thanks.

You may keep a loaded magazine in your safe but you cannot store that magazine in your gun. You may also keep a loaded clip if you wish to load your magazine with it, but you cannot store that magazine in you gun either.;)

So basicaly by Canadian law you have a metal club instead of something to defend yourself?

lol that metal club better not be for self defense, because if it is.... it's illegal.

yup, stupid system, this is where we live and the good folk get it stuck in their asses... deeeeeep.

but we can buy bear spray to defend ourselves from... well... bears! thank goodness they allow us this privilege because i'm always worried a bear will break into my house and rape/kill my wife and child.
H:S:

Dude - help yourself out and read up a bit so you don't get flamed...

A clip is a thing that holds rounds together to aid in the rapid reloading of a magazine.

There are no storage rules for ammunition I don't think. Which means you can leave loaded magazine in your desk drawer if you wanted to as long as it's not in the gun. But someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

noone was flaming him until you came along.

Personally I keep a loaded clip outside my safe, seconds count in an emergency situation and the less crap you have to pull out of the safe the better. Legality dosent matter if your dead.

That is what I figured, but was not sure if storing a full mag would do anything to the springs as I'm just getting into firearms.

You can have that mag loaded for a hundred years and it would not have any ill effect on the spring.

What wears a spring down is the action of it being compressed and de-compressed but in a still state whether compressed or not you are not doing any damage to it.

Load up those mags and have 'em ready!

People around are kinda touchy about this:;)

This is a MAGAZINE:

Some people here feel this is flame-worthy.

It's great that you are seeking the correct method of safe storage.:)

clip, magazine or detachable box magazine. the minute he said spring, we all knew what he was talking about. so is your motor getting good gas mileage or your engine?

loaded clip

keep one less round or so in your magazine which will save the spring if it is indeed a magazine and not a clip. a clip does not matter how many rounds you load as is illistrated above. And yes it it ok to keep your clip or what ever loaded in your gun safe just so long as it is not in any way attached to the weapon it was designed to function in.
