I am refinishing a Cooey 75, and after removing the bluing and polishing the barrel, it looks pretty good. Is there a product I could finish the steel with to keep the bright polished steel look without worrying about rust and corrosion?

Right now she shines like a new quarter!:)

TIA

Bill

Bill there was a thread a week or so ago and couple of guys have polished handguns and had no problem with rust by simply keeping thier guns cleaned and oiled.
I would think it would cost more to chrome it then the gun is worth unless there is some sentimental value.

We have a product called Arma-Clear that can protect any wood metal or plastic material. No need to have a porous finish with this stuff, it can be applied directly over blueing. And our products are extremely tough, and can withstand bore solvents and other chemicals.

I have always used Aerowax paste wax in this application. I use it mainly on dies and other white metal parts subject to handling. It works well and lasts long. Aero can be bought at grocery stores and home centres. It was originally designed for polished aircraft.

*PS I understand Johnson Paste Wax is the same as Aero.

I've just used Flitz on bare metal once it was polished, and it has held its finish without any difficulty. Works well ..Just a thought

I have a remington 40xtr which has a polished barrel and here is how i did it...once it was all polished i polished it even more with a product called Autosol which is a metal polish and then just give it a wiping down with g96 to protect the bare steel. Works wonders and its over 10 years old and absolutely no rust on it!! If you cant find Autosol just pm me and i will help ya with that, total cost was about 12 bucks for everything!!!

Birchwood Casey makes a product called "Sheath", just put a very little bit on a cloth and wipe your whole gun down with it. Works like a charm, haven't had a spot of rust on any of my firearms since I started useing it 5 years ago. :D bearhunter
