Are you a "fad" chaser when it comes to rifles. To you have to have what the Jones have? or are you satisfied to defend your rifle by the game it has taken rather than the cost of it's barrel.

I find some people are flavour of the week, that's ok, but I really like the guys who actually defend the rifles by the animals they have taken with them, or the groups thay have shot.

Thoughts?

I don't keep up with anyone, but I will admit that I have way more invested in my hunting rifles than is necessary. However, I have them the way I want them, and I enjoy using them...Because I can...:)

If it looks good and I can get honest reviews(from actual people) about performance, I buy it. I must admit I do fall for some fad guns though.

Pine Martin.

I buy what looks interesting. I've got a 30-06 and a 223 so that might make me a traditionalist, but I've also got 3 45-70s that aren't Guide Guns. One of my 870s is tweaked but I also own a Superposed. There's a Stevens 200 downstairs and a Ruger M77 RSM.

I have a cheapo Savage in 270 win for a hunting rifle it works fine for what I need. If people want to buy expensive or cheap stuff thats their decision and its none of my business.

I've got cought up in hype about 2 rifles here on CGN.

First was a lower end savage/stevens. They're accurate, and cheap, bla bla bla, yeah and it feels like the plastic baseball bat your 3 year old cousin plays with. I sold it, and bought a husqvarna 1600, almost same price as a lower end savage or stevens, can't compare the difference in fit, finish and quality.

Second was a M14s, now given, it's a good rifle for a select few. I'm mostly a hunter, and dont need a 14pound rifle that's as long as a freakin' bed!

Makes for awesome deals for others when people move on. I expect awesome deals on guide guns next year in the EE, although I still wont be buying one. I suggest if your going to get into following a fad, buy a SKS, they're s**tty, but so cheap you can't really loose much, even if you gave it away your not taking that big a hit. People who spend crazy amounts of money on SKS's on the other hand... Have fun when your fully pimped out tacicool $1200 sks gets smoked by a $650 858 :p:cool::rockOn::wave:

as for the guide gun fad ... Ihave had them when it is cool and also when it is not cool. What I have noticed though, is that the guide gun facination comes in waves... 4 or 5 good bear defence threads and they're bought like hotcakes, then all of a sudden winter shows up with coyotes and the like, or some new fad and the EE is flooded,.. Sako's follow the same pattern,,..they're amazing guns, when they're in the spotlight, everyone wants one,... when spotlight goes out, those really didn't need one head to the EE. Many Rifles are that way...I'm still waiting for the ruger mini's to fit again

Do the Jonses have a hardon for crusty old Mausers?

My guess is you'll see a few Mini 14 Target's in the EE sooner or later. Unless those that bought them had the good sense to throw them down a well.

I'm impressed with any gun that can do something well. That doesn't mean I need one, but I can appreciate what you see in it. Buy what you want, that's what I do. Guns are generally good value unless you buy something stupid.

I like to consider advice and information from more experienced people in order to make an informed decision. In any pursuit I have undertaken, fads have no bearing, neither do the jones's.

Does this make me cool? :D

I have my guns because of experience and what I like to hold while hunting. I have worked hard and have a few nice guns. I could make do with lesser guns but choose to buy nice ones. If you buy used its even more fun and saves money. It was 2004 when I bought my last new gun. All since are used but some have thought they are new because of the great shape they are in. I like Weatherby Ruger and my Mauser 404J. I don't follow trends.

I buy what turns me on.... sometimes I find out about new stuff through other people, like when you guys post pictures of rifles all done up ###y like.

:p

On the other hand, having a severly limited budget means that sometimes I don't get what I want.

:mad::(:rolleyes:

I myself knew about the guns I was purchasing long before the vast majority, It just happens they became trending afterwords, which is not my doing, but is to be expected.
I'm also a part collector beside hunter as well so, I'm willing to purchase guns I don't need and that are not practical in some senses!

I would love to own my own museum!

My addiction towards interesting Rifles is only balanced by my current poverty. :(

But I am trying to reduce just down to a few Calibers... 6.5x55, 30/30, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R. :D

i've gotten really sour about buying anything since that stupid letter confining our 12(3)s came out- until then the m14 was king , and i'm not talking chinese- i've got lots of guns, but only 2 calibers- 308 and 338wm-
never seen the need for another

"a 14 pound rifle as long as a bed" LOL! I do get on the trend of the month but more with knives than guns simply because my finances can't handle hopping on all the rifle trends.
I would have all the trendy toys if I could. Short shotties ,Hungryized M305 ,.338 lapua precision sniper rifle, Mosin sniper clone ,45/70 guide gun ,an AR lower receiver(just in case) and a Russian SKS and of course a couple cowboy action guns.

They are usually pretty decent rifles or they would not get so popular. Maybe not the most practical but still cool.
