Kel-Tec Distribution

Well.. after many months of waiting, as of today Vault received word from the CFR that the SU16F {The Canadian version of The American SU 16A} has been approved with a Non Restricted classification. The SU16F is also the only model of the SU 16 family to be approved by the US Department Of State for export to the Canadian market. We have been in contact with Kel-Tec to advise them of this great news, and have discussed manufacturing plans for the SU16F. We will know in the next few days when the first 50 will be produced for Vault, and we will let you all know when we know.

OH MAN. I was under the impression that these were made already and we were just waiting for them to be allowed into the country...
I guess the rumours that floated around that these would be available early july are a no go?

If they have to make them, ship them and all the paperwork with that are we looking at another 6months? year?

:(

if they arent made already then why arent we getting them with the gas mounted site and heavier barrel? and only 50? i thought this was going to be a $1000 non restricted .223, that should sell like hot cakes

bah

if I'm going to pay near twice what the Americans pay, I want one like the SU-16CA not the outdated SU16A
I don't understand why the su-16a was ever even considered when there are better version available.

Good question, the CA is definitely the way to go.
My enthusiasm is diminishing quickly for this rifle... especially after inferring a likely much longer wait from Vault's statement.
grrr, we'll see what happens..

To be fair, if we take their word for it, in their post Vault claims ONLY THIS MODEL was approved for export, implying the other models were DENIED.

Who knows?

However, that is irrelevant. The only thing I care about now...

IS WHEN THEY GET HERE.

The SU16F is also the only model of the SU 16 family to be approved by the US Department Of State for export to the Canadian market.

On first inspection, it would appear that the other models of SU16 were not approved for export to Canada, and that's why we're getting the Alpha version instead of the "SU16CA" version which is far better.

However, as I read that a second time, I'm thinking that perhaps whoever authored that blurb made a bit of an error, or at least misrepresented the truth of the matter? Could it be that the SU16A was the only specimen submitted to the US Dept of State for approval and is thus the only version of the rifle with approval by default? Were any SU16CA's sent for approval? I doubt it. Why the hell would the Alpha get approval, but the "CA" not get approval? They're the same fackin gun with a different sight and a thinker barrel! LOL...

I still want an Alpha either way.

I just wish all this stuff could have been aired out earlier. There are like 4-5 different versions, would have been nice to know which they were bringing in.

The alpha model wasn't approved, the F model was approved, it was built to pass the export/import tests. Why they based it on the alpha model is out of my pay grade.

I'm still looking forward to mine, but the fact it could be better will still be in the back of my mind.

Has there been any "reliable" mention towards the expected price of the KSG in Canada? I've seen pre-orders in the US at $650.. so are they going to be ~$1000 here.. or is that just some type of happy thought (ie, are the prices here going to be ~$1500)?

My opinion... The KSG should be OK to be exported/imported in it's factory configuration, unlike the su16/rfb, it won't need to go through canadianizing and costing kel-tec/vault extra money, so it should be closer to the MSRP then other kel-tec products.

My guess is if production goes according to plan and importation and delivery is as swift and clean as it always is ;) it looks like we could see the SU 16's mid August... KSG's on the other hand, there has been no new news and a fall release is still hopeful...

I've been watching for the SU's for a while now... and although I can't say for certain, I would guess that the SU-16CA was denied for export due to the folding stock and 16" barrel, perhaps?

In any case, I don't really see the big issue. 16" medium weight barrel vs. 18.5" standard weight, I can't see a huge accuracy discrepancy appearing; it is a Kel Tec SU-16, after all. And although the availability of an 18.5" medium weight barrel would be nice, it'd also make for a bit less handy gun. As for the fugly front sight... well... that's why God invented propane torches and flattop recievers.

But please Vault, JUST KEEP IT CHEAP!

Any word as to whether some of the accessories will be brought in as well (like the optional pistol grip and AR stock adapter for instance)?

Really looking forward to this gun.

Su16a and su16ca have the same stock
AFAIK the su16ca was not denied for export, only the made for canada su16f was submitted to be exported.
