Kel Tec KSG Rail Ruptures

That's why I'd never want want a railed forend on a pump gun. it would tear up your hand withought a grip and with a grip the recoil would make it twisty and apparently a plastic rail will break under this twist. I'm no fudd I like my "tactical shottys" I just don't like hanging crap off of them.
 
Not gonna stop me from buying one. I also have no intention of putting a vertical grip on it either... never liked them on my carbines, and certainly have no interest in them on a pump gun
 
I hate to say it, but that's probably only the first of many issues these guns are going to have.
 
Strange that both this guy and his buddy both broke their rail on both their brand new KSG but they seem to be the only ones to ever have this happen.

Kel Tec customer service said they had never seen this before and they will repair the gun as per warranty.

For canadians it may be trickier though...
 
While it should not have broken, it's either a) a design flaw (unlikely, the guns have been run hard in prototypes for a year without any reported breakage) b) manufacturing defect or c) the owner way over-tightened the grip.

I'm going to b) or c).
 
It's interesting that both failures occured with the Sig Stoplight... perhaps when snugged down, it exerts excessive lateral pressure on the rail base. This could score the polymer, and withe the right amount of leverage, snap the part right off. On the KTOG forum, the only ones who have experienced this failure were the two guys using that particular vertical grip.

My bet is on a fit issue between this particular grip and the ksg...

IT dosn't look like a rupture at all but more of a shere effect from racking. My bet is that they were tring to rack while it was locked. Hence ripping the handel right off the plastic rails.
 
An Aluminum rail with a steel back plate would be a better idea, at least have holes drilled through it I know many companies make Al. rails with steel back plates. I have a polymer rail on my Benelli M4 (a modified FAB Defense one with the top section cut off) and I've never had problems with vertical grips on it, but then again you're not racking it at all...

I would bet the SIG grip is probably loose on the rail (never heard anything good about the SIG accessories; which has nothing to do with Swiss Arms) and under recoil with heavy loads and pumping it tends to wobble back and forth, and started stressing that area of picatinny rail until it failed.

I put my name down with Wolverine. I really hope I get one. I have been waiting for this shotgun for too damn long, why do we have to wait so long?!? it's not fair.. wah wah wah.. it really isn't fair.
