Is anyone able to share some first hand experience with using either the Cross Industries 10 rounders or the C-Products LAR-15 magazines in the Kel-Tec RDB?

Found one thread that stated the Cross would drop out after first round fired. I understand the rifle is supposed to work with any AR patterned mag but in real life that's not always the case.

Any recommendations?

Last time I tried C-prod they worked. From my experience with several RDBs - they are not picky and worked with GI mags, p-mags, and those plastic mags they came with.
P.S. Consider that KT rolls out minor changes into RDB without any formal notifications or version designation, AFIAR on the KTOG forum it was discussed that there are at least two versions of magazine catch system. So everyone's mileage can vary.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Was able to test C-Products (actually Duramag but look identical) and they lock in solidly and stay there while cycling dummy rounds and drop out well enough.

They are designed specifically for Magpul P-mags.
And when I use my included P-mag; it works perfectly.

Other mags do not work quite as well for me.

I'm really hoping that M-Carbo will come out with an aftermarket magazine release for the RDB.

This rifle is extremely cool in so many ways.
But there are some quirks that I'm trying to work around.

pmag is prob the best for the rdb , get some 5/20

Yes. The gun is definitely designed to work specifically with P-mags.

It looks like the problem with metal mags is the horizontal width of the mag-catch slot.

The mag-catch slot on my P-Mags are about .100" wider than my metal mags.
So because of that; The mag-catch doesn't really click in all the way. It sort of sits on the radius instead.

I think I will try opening up that slot by .100" and do some test-firing.

If anyone else wants to look at your own rifle. It's easy to remove the mag-catch and put in a magazine.
Then take a look at how the slot lines up with the mag-catch. You'll see the obvious difference between a P-mag vs a steel mag.

I don't have this issue. All types of mags have same level of play. That includes plastic Thermold, P-mags and metal GI and ASC.

Zoomed picture is not the best but I can assure both types sits flush (depth seating). As for horizontal slot, all mags I have on hands have 10mm width slot (including plastic Thermold), except P-mags with 13mm slot.

As you can see - perfect fit of 10mm mag catch bar and 10mm slot of GI mag.

P-mag depth seating is flush, horizonal has spare space.

Width of mag catch bar is measured like this and is 10mm.

P.S. RDB I tested with is Z6###, I also have another currently under warranty and she was Z4### and no issues with mags as well.

This video shows the problem very well.

I think there's a difference between mag-catch width from one rifle to the next.
Yours might be a bit narrower than mine. The guy in the video has one that's probably wider.

What is your rifle series?

Mine's a Z4.

Just to be clear; My rifle is nowhere near as bad as the one in the video.

My steel mags fall out sometimes. But not every single time like his does.

Strange, some ppl here https://www.thektog.org/threads/rdb-magazine-retention-issue.268043/ reported it was fixed in Z3 or so. Does your mag release has 3 (2 open, 1 covered) or 2 (1 open, 1 covered) holes on the front?

On this pic #3 is new version. Ppl also reported tension is much bigger with #3.

I machined out the slot in one of my metal magazines (.100" wider towards the rear of the mag.)

It locks in much better now.
You can definitely feel and hear an audible "CLICK" like you do with P-mags.

Once my range is opened again; I'll do some test-firing.

I have both the Cross and Larry 10/30 mags and both work great. I also have the three hole mag catch. With a Z1 RDB.
