Something that has caught my eye in a major way is the Kel-Tec RMR30.

It is due for entering production this year. 30 rds of .22 magnum from a black rifle will sure be fun.

However, I'm quite concrned with the magazine capacity limits interfering. I think (not entirely sure) that the RMR30 uses PMR30 mags.

If they get the frt go ahead to import, do you think the mags will have to come pinned? Otherwise you'd have 30 rd PMR30 mags floating around.

Is there a precedence for this?

At the 30 second mark of the video from SHOT, the Kel-Tec rep confirms your suspicion.

That means it will be pinned to 10 because it's a pistol mag. It sucks, but it's the way it is. Sometimes we win with this (CX4, JR Carbine, etc.) and sometimes we lose. :(

Thanks for the info. What a shame.

f:P:He called it a weapon :bangHead:

It is a weapon, as is every other firearm in Canada by definition. If this comes in, it will be a weapon also.

As set out in section 2 of the Criminal Code, "firearm" means:
a barrelled weapon from which any shot, bullet or other projectile can be discharged and that is capable of causing serious bodily injury or death to a person, and includes
•any frame or receiver of such a barrelled weapon, as well as
•anything that can be adapted for use as a firearm.

While some argue it is all about intent... unfortunately, it ain't so. You may not use it as such, but it still is.

The only difference is he is ok with calling it what it is, without fear of being labelled himself.

just because they tell us its a weapon doesn't mean it is. They tell us we can't defend ourselves too, and legally we can't but we all know we can and will. Their interpretation of what we can and cannot do, and us going along with it is how we got here.

"It uses the same style of magazines as the PMR30"

I would think a rifle magazine designated/labelled for the RMR30 would be fine.
Wait and see I guess.

Yes, perhaps they could label the magazines in such a manner so as to designate them for the carbine/rifle only. Make the intended use for the rifle regardless of what they happen to fit into.
Similar to the LAR mags.

If the Canadian version comes with a pinned stock it would be nice to have a shorty barrel, keep it very compact but just long enough to remain NR.
