My favorite little lightweight camp/pack/truck gun is no more after having it for just a year :(. The frame busted out where the bolt carrier makes contact with the polymer(it's designed that way).

I'd appreciate any advice from anybody who's had to deal with a Kel-Tec warranty as I've contacted Kel-Tec, Kel-Tec's authorized Canadian distributor, the actual importer and the retailer who sold it to me. Kel-Tec said the distributor would deal with it, spoke with them and apparently the one I got was brought into the country by another party so they don't want to touch it. The retailer directed me to the importer that supplied them and then the importer re-directed me to the retailer. :bangHead: I really don't give a s*** who processes the warranty as both parties got a chunk of my $800.

While I wait for them to "work it out" I can't help but think it's crazy this kind of thing wasn't laid out in the terms of the purchase between the importer and retailer.

Which retailer.

I avoided naming anyone specific as I still have faith they'll eventually have an acceptable answer for me... and to avoid all the replies from nutters on here who think that firearm dealers get a free pass from the customer is always right motto.

why can't they just put a metal plate in that area? How much weight would that add? Sheesh!

I tried...for a looong time...didn't get anywhere. Dealt with Kel Tec directly, and they were willing to fix it if I could get it across the border. Never did figure out how to do that legally, and without having to pay several hundred dollars...so in the end, it was an expensive piece of plastic garbage. I will never touch another Kel Tec, especially an SU-16...due to the crappy product, and the crappy Canadian distributor.

All those folks buying SU-16's in the EE...at close to retail (lol)...better pay attention. ;)

I bought a JR Carbine and recently a new Tavor...much happier now.

The lifetime warranty applies to Canadians is what the main importer told me.
Kel-tec needs to tell them to help make it right. The importer just can't see the bigger picture... not helping to resolve these types of failures quickly and painlessly is going to kill sales in the future.

quick question, i know alot of people tend to shoot 5.56 in .223 rifles.. just for records sakes, did you fire 5.56 through your su-16?? or just .223?
be honest now ;)

I know I've only ever shot .223 in mine...and only factory loaded ammo. Not very many rounds down the pipe before the catastrophe either.

Anyone who doesn't know that you shouldn't shoot 5.56 NATO in a firearm chambered for .223, is responsible for the outcome.

There was a reply on my topic. A poster stated factory American eagle223 ,was really 5.56. It happens with most products , there's always a lemon, hopefully the warranty will be good . Maybe just some bad metal .

When I asked years ago, Keltec told me all their guns were chambered in 5.56 but stamped .223 so they could be legally exported from the good ol US of A. Anything 5.56 isn't allowed to leave the US without ridiculous hassles. Ruger Mini is the same, stamped .223 chambered 5.56.

Another poster on here said he talked to Keltec management and was told they are chambered 223 , I talked to chad at Keltec and he told me what canadian Zuk said

I had the same experience. I sold it as a parts gun, cut my losses, and will never buy a keltec again.

Unless somebody measures properly we really don't know.theres a thread called is it 223 or 5.56 , it has lots of good proven info on the subject.

A year ago this happened to me after about 60 rounds. Vault took care of it and got me a replacement after 4-5 months. I sold the new one shortly thereafter without firing it. A shame, I really liked that gun.

I guess there is some value in buying from an authorized retailer....but wtf is the consumer supposed to do? Ask to see the importation paper trail before buying? Seems retarded you can't get service cuz it wasn't brought in by Vault.

I am also curious as to how this rifle got into your hands. If it was brought in by a company that by passes the established Canadian distibution and retail network then that company would be completely responsible for the warranty as Vault and the authorized Canadian dealers are out of the picture. If it was brought in by Vault and they are not looking after you then I would like to hear about it. Phil.

Your story is discouraging to hear. I'm 2 weeks in and I'm already off Kel-Tecs, but I'm also $800 in for the rifle and another $500 in optics and accessories so I'm not going to stop pursuing a replacement/refund.

Other Kel-tec guns are fine and well reinforced (KSG, RFB), but it seams like sub2000 and Su-16 might need some upgrades.
