Kel-Tec SU-16 Broken Frame!

I am also curious as to how this rifle got into your hands. If it was brought in by a company that by passes the established Canadian distibution and retail network then that company would be completely responsible for the warranty as Vault and the authorized Canadian dealers are out of the picture. If it was brought in by Vault and they are not looking after you then I would like to hear about it. Phil.

Hey Phil, when I spoke with Vault they knew right away it wasn't one they brought in. They were aware of another importer who basically sanded down the "5.56" marking and then engraved ".223" on top. My retailer told me who their importer was but when I called them they denied bringing any Kel-Tecs into the country.

With all the "cheap plastic toy" threads, I would think they would have fixed you up regardless. If they had, this post probably wouldn't have made it up on CGN, where probably 50-90% of potential customers look and read. Poor business, IMO
I hope my SUB 2000 Is fine.

There was a reply on my topic. A poster stated factory American eagle223 ,was really 5.56

That would be a no it is not actually .5.56 Nato spec. AM .223 is commercial ammo and must pass SAAMI specifications. As I've said before (and it's easy to look up) SAAMI states that firing .5.56 Nato in a .223 spec gun is a unsafe combination!

Is that even legal

This happened to me after about 300 rounds. This was two maybe three years ago. Vault Distributing replaced it for me. Process took about a month. I sold the replacement immediately. What I was told was some story about how there was a firing pin was improperly staked in a limited run and someone had been fired and the process had been fixed. To hear that it is still happening? Sounds like Kel-tec had a convenient story. Sorry guys but the SU-16 is a flawed design.

Okay, now I definitely want to know who this is. I've never understood the "don't name the business" mentality. I've worked in the firearms industry for years, and accountability for good and bad decisions is important for the consumer and the business. If they make a mistake, people deserve to hear how it's resolved whether good or bad. Nobody is responsible for the consequences of the business's actions except them.

I'm simply waiting for a conclusion and haven't been given a definitive "NO" yet. Yes, if the final outcome is me getting screwed I will use this forum to give my personal opinion on what businesses to avoid so others don't have to share my experience.

We are the retailer of this particular firearm.

The firearm was imported by North Sylva, and they will be handling the warranty repair or replacement. The customer was originally given incorrect information regarding how the warranty was going to be handled, as the procedure has recently changed, and we were unaware of this. We have been in contact with both the customer and North Sylva, and we believe that we have now resolved the procedure. We will be following this up with North Sylva to ensure that the repair or replacement is handled in a timely a fashion.

Ultimately, we want the customer to be completely satisfied with the outcome of this episode, and we will do everything we can to resolve this issue. We have already apologized to the customer for the confusion and delay thus far, as it is below the standard we have set for ourselves with regard to customer service.

Regards.

Sorry for the offside here but, is that a fackin' banjo in one of the pics!?

Sweet! How long have you been playing?

Also, yeah that's what happens when you make guns out of flimsy plastic in areas that could be exposed to high stress.

The price of them in this country always far outweighed their "non restricted" novelty as far as what you're getting for your almost $1000 after tax and shipping.

That is a rough case also with the warranty run around Sir. Hope you find some resolve.

Pleased to have clarification now on what my next step is. As I said the purpose of this post was not to name any names but show others a flaw, rare or not, in this particular rifle and get any advice on resolving the issue in the quickest manner possible. Big of you to come forward.

Thanks,
Mibri

Cheers to The Gun Dealer and NS for stepping up resolve this.

Having said that, I will never understand the big following that guns with polymer receivers have.
This design and the AR180-B are fatally flawed. A few dollars and a few ounces of real metal could have avoided all this.

That's a very good outcome for you, MiBri...and good for the dealer to come forward and ensure that you are taken care of.

I too would never touch another SU-16 even if had I been given another chance.

I just bought one off the EE ,the way that you guys are saying these guns are crap don't make me feel to good about my purchase? Also there are 200 people waiting on Fxs to be rebarreled. Are these the only rifles to be having this problem , I've checked keltec forum and could only find one with same problem and two here.Is that a high and unacceptable amount of defective firearms to label them crap? This is a honest question because I have very little experience with firearms. I just like to shoot , if it's broke I bring it to a professional.

this makes me glad I bought my FX from a retailer that orders them from vault. warranty is good to go ;)

Purchases through the EE are not covered by the warranty. You are on your own...this was the situation that I was in. Even though I offered to pay up to a few hundred dollars to cover expenses to have Vault send my rifle down to Kel Tec and then back again, I was told that I was on my own. I even tried to enlist the help of another business member to do the same, with the same result.

Kel Tec was happy to replace the upper for me even though I was very candid with them from the beginning that I had bought this from an individual, not from a retailer. They know there are issues with this rifle, and wanted to make it right...they even offered to pay for the shipping back and forth from an FFL...I just needed to get the rifle across the border. I wasn't able to get any help from the Canadian side, even though I was willing to pay. So, in the end, I just gave up on it. It was an expensive lesson to learn, but in the end, it's what led me to finally purchase my Tavor. A lot more money, but heck of a lot better firearm.

Any way warranty or not I wouldn't want something that breaks all the time ,it's just an inconvenience, I'm just wondering does this only happen with Kel tec or does other products have similar problems. Is it possible it's just some defective metal, maybe it was minus 25 when it happened , maybe the ammo was crap. Or all these Kel tec su that bad.
