I'll be picking up my Christmas present in the next week or so. I've narrowed my list down to the CZ-858 and the Kel-tec SU-16. I'm leaning towards the Kel-Tec because I can go to the 10 round mags right off the bat without modifications. But I like the look of the CZ a little more, but thats not the main deciding factor.
I'm just woundering if any of you have a SU-16, and what you think about them? I own a Sub-2000, I like the gun, but it dose feel cheap. I'm thinking the SU-16 is about the same quality, but thats just a guess. Anybody have any insight?

Hmm? I think im seeing a pattern here. If it wernt for the 5 rounds it would be a no brainer. Has anybody donr the XCR adapter in their CZ? Is it something I can do myself?

Both!
I had both and sold the SU-16. It depends on what you want the gun for. In NB it makes more sense to go with the SU because we can hunt with it all year and there for have it in the trunk all the time. As far as the range goes, yes the SU takes AR mags and there for LAR mags but the 858 is WAY more fun to shoot!

I'm sure the 858 is the better built rifle, but it seems like people are underwhelmed with the 223 version... the OP didn't specify which cartridge he wanted. One thing to keep in mind is that optics are much easier to mount with the Su-16

Caliber is of no importance to me, I have no purpose I need it to fill. It's pretty much just for fun, plinking and what not. Not that I wouldnt prefer the more reliable, more accurate gun. I already have a heathy supply of 7.62, and I've been telling myself if I buy a gun in a differnt caliber than I already own it's going to be .223.
So is one more accurate than the other? And I hate to ake the question "whats better"..............

no one can really give you a definitive answer here...it all depends on which one you enjoy shooting more. You need both, no doubt about it. The CZ is uber reliable, both are compact and lightweight. I havent shot my SU yet but I hear theyre not the most reliable. The SU has an action very similar to the AK except it has an AR bolt head, but is a little more difficult to take down and clean. (Compared to AK) Of course theres the plastic thing, not confidence inspiring. The SU is a military "style" rifle but is not up to any military standards. Think of it like an airsoft gun that fires live ammunition. The CZ is a rock solid rifle, and most aftermarket parts are high quality unlike the SKS that has a following of dirt merchants slinging cheap crap that detracts from the rifles accuracy and reliability. Like I said buy both, theyre similar in ways and different in others. Only you can decide which one you like best.

I was in the same boat not long ago, looking at both the SU-16 and 858.. I was pretty much dead set on the Kel-Tec, but did some more research on the 858 and I'm glad I did. I chose to go with the CZ 858 based on the fact that it was designed for military use and is proven to be reliable. Reliability really is the most important thing IMO. The SU-16 looks awesome with the pistol grip kit on it, and I'm sure it's a good rifle, but I doubt I'd be as happy with the quality of it over the CZ. I love this thing.

I own both. Have put the same amount of ammo through both (600+) and love them both. The CZ is 7.62 and will be getting the B&T magwell to use the XCR 10rd mags in it. The SU is .223 and already uses the 10rd LAR mags. The CZ is a year older than the SU so you can see which one gets used more. I tend to grab the SU due to it's 10rd capacity. Both rifles weigh around the same and shoot about the same for accuracy. The SU breaks down into 2 pieces for easier storage. The CZ has more punch to it though.

My SU and CZ are both tricked out similarly. Shoot em both if you can before deciding or just buy one of each.

The underwhelmed part of the csa rifles in 223 are the poor magazines and lack thereof. With a steady supply of decent mags I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 223 858.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to respond. Before I started this thread I was almost certin I was going to get the Kel-Tec. Now, not so much. I pretty much figured your getting more quality for your money with the CZ. The SU-16 only had my interest because of the LAR-mags. I'll be looking to get the CZ, but I'm sure it will ultimatly come down to whats in stock.
