Kel-tec su 16 tactical--reliability?longativity?any experiances ?

I've had mine for a couple years now, 800 or so rounds through it. At the beginning (first 100 ish rounds...) it had a few stovepipes, maybe a dozen? I've often thought of selling it, haven't used it all summer...but I think I want to keep it.
My only concern at first was the pic rail on top of receiver being polymer and still bein able to hold zero...well I haven't had any issues really...I mean I shoot Barnaul 55 and 62 grain a lot, and no big issue with "accuracy" (it's not sub Moa as the OP knows already).
As far as the whole cracking polymer stock goes...I don't club seals with it...but I did shoot a lot in winter...never had an issue with it. Yes it's flimsy feeling around where the spare magazine is meant to fit in stock, but the tactical version won't have that issue.
It's light, takes stanag mags, ok ish accuracy, fun plinker. You're not jumping out of helicopters with it lol
Frig it I may keep mine and get the aftermarket stock/handguard haha

Just got mine. Hasn't screwed up yet. Quite accurate. Got it because my southern neighbors like their Kel-tec stuff. Came with a lifetime warranty made in the USA. Can just drop it off if it needs repair. Trigger is great. Did I mention no non restricted tax. Came to the door for about $750 Can. Lol what ever the hell that Means!

I think it's an ideal bush rifle given it's lightness and foldability. I do not consider it a plinker, but more of a working bush rifle that is only fired when needed. For a bush rifle, there are few that are better IMO. I think the AR15 is superior because it too is light, but of course it's restricted. No other non-restricted semi-auto is as light and portable as the SU-16, which is why I think it is perfect for the bush.

if you need to know if a keltec product is reliable, then your google-fu not strong!

keltec is at the exact polar opposite spectrum of reliability, but hey its cgn so it's frigging awesome! no it wont crack open and brake

I guess if you look on google for any firearm with "broke, unreliable, issue, warranty" and so on... you'll find every company has lemon.

Mike is still cranky about his $3000 Lemon:)
I've had two, my two buddy's has one each, no issues yet.
I dumped 10 mags , 10 rnds in each mag, as fast as I could. Not one failure.

only $750 with a lifetime warranty ... What do you expect? A C.A.? LOL

Go with a ruger mini 14 very reliable and they last forever

Agree, love both of mine only short coming is the inability to use AR style mags. Would be nice to use LAR mags as they wouldnt stick out too far and get in the way as much as Beos would but make mag changes easier than the flush fits. Even 5/10 ruger mags impossible to find up here.

where did you order from? Street price here is $1300 plus?

I have had one on my radar for awhile. Im sure I will own one sooner, then later. I love my little Sub 2k. People rag on those too, but after some very Minor work in procedures, mine runs 99.99% since my second outing with it a year ago. From all Ive read/heard etc. I wouldnt hesitate if the right deal came along. Holding out for the FX/Tan models.

Ordered from "irunguns" and they were real good. They pinned both mags and easy to deal with. Mine is the su16 A maybe not finished as nice as the Canadian ones but since it arrived I like it the way it is.

thats what i did and ended up being quite a bit cheaper than buying the tactical version. I am happy with it

Can you tell us what you swapped out on the stock su16 for that?
Did you get the basic su16 from irg or someplace in canada? Isn't thinly version allowed in Canada the su16f?

bought the basic SU16 from IRG, replaced the stock for the AR style with pistol grip, compact forend, added the scope and threaded the barrel for the fake suppressor, and of course had to pick up a couple Beowulf mags.

We're not jumping out of helicopters with them, and nobody's paying us to take them to the range.

This "reliability" thing your talking about, only comes into play, when considered as a function of duration (wait, is that right? That sounds goofy/). Sure, your K.A. AR, will still be running as smoothly after 10k rounds as day one, while the Keltec's ready for the recycle bin at that point.
Thing is, that the guys buying/shooting SU16's, may never even come close to shooting that many rounds (unless we can figure out a way for the taxpayer to start buying our ammo too, eh ;)).

What I'm saying is, over the 'relative' service life of the firearm (intended use considered), the Keltec SU16, is just as reliable (or close to) as it's ridiculously over-priced competitors.
I'm not sure what makes me smile more: The Kel-tec as a reliable firearm or people in this thread vouching for that reliability with as little as 100 rounds down the pipe.

Just bought 2 (the predator and the tactical). So far, I love them both. I think I like the predator better though, although the folding stock is very cheesy/flimsy. This purchase pretty much seals the deal on me dumping my AR. Screw the whole restricted game. Keltec for the win!

I mean C'mon, a guy with tactical fannypacks says so....must be true
