are these legal here? i have a feeling the folding stock models may not be, but the California legal model has a fixed stock, and doesn't look too evil.

The barrel is too short so it's a restricted, and it doesn't have a reputation for reliability.

Save your money for something good.

Yup, if you're going for a .223, restricted, the only way to go on your budget IMHO is a RRA AR from Questar, amazing prices. Not a ton more than the SU-16 and way more rifle.
