Kel-tech sub 2000 - Any thoughts?

Had mine for a bit, the hammer seems to follow the bolt on occasion, Vault seems to think it\s the transfer bar, will be sending it in next week. The front sight is cranked over but the gun shoots to the right. Vault told me to try lossening and tightening the screws on the barrel pivot point, but it did not seem to help. The gun is basically a Sten gun with some plastic bits. You will need to sand down some of the sharp corners. I taped some pipe insultaion around the stock, makes for a nice cheek rest and better sight picture. If you don't need the folding option, then \i would consider something else. For me the abilty to fold the gun up and put it in a discreet bag was important and that was the deciding factor. The front sights really let this gun down. My Storm is a much better gun.

My Sub-2000's never jammed and never "shot-loose" :yingyang: - it's a compact carbine that's a pleasure to stow in the trunk....:)

The lack of scope-mounting options as it comes from the factory........just made me get used to the iron-sights....;)

Seems like there are ups and downs, and you are basically paying a 200+% preimium for getting it in Canada.

Spotty quality control by the looks of it, some people have perfect guns, while others seem to have nothing but issues.

My vote is out for now, and won't be cashed until I get to handle and fire one of them. (Hint hint cyclone ;))

Just brought mine home and so far so good with the finish of it. Cant wait to put some rounds through it!! The $599 price tag is a bit extreme for this rifle but just being allowed to have something like this in our country makes it worth every penny to me!!

just brought yours home? as in today? where did you get it from? ive been waiting for dealers to get them in for awile now. $599 doesnt seem that bad once youve seen all the stock ones in the EE for $700 plus

I got it from wanstalls. I was on a short waiting list and one came in so couldnt pass it up. Your rite though $599 isnt alot of money really but knowing that they go for half that in the states just plain out sucks!

Mine has run great so far. Got 1 case of MFS through it without cleaning(oh yeah she is filthy). Only issues that I had was with a borrowed 10/33 KCI mag.

I also do not like the front sight. The top of the blade on mine is cut at an angle, but that works ok for aiming at the right tip of it.

I really like mine ... but it's being sent back a second time for warranty. First time the trigger wouldn't always reset - when I got it back it looks like the bolt was modified BUT now it squashes brass a rips cases jagged down the side. Can't be safe to fire, my fun gun hasn't been that much fun since buying it. :(

had mine now just over a month and I love it, a little over 700 rounds thru without a hiccup so far. and a fun little shooter to modify

went through the same things with my gf's gun. It worked great for about two hundred rounds. Then the safty stoped working, it would fire when on "safe" they looked at it, did there thing, we got it back....then it would only reset the triger when runing the action by hand. so off back in the mail it went...bout a month passes and a new sub2k shows up. Great service from reliable and valt. Lost confidance in the gun tho, its now just for shooting cans in the pit.

Nice! Can you fully operate the charging handle with the MOE stock installed that far down on the tube? Does the Magpul front sight have enough adjustment to operate well with the rear sight?

yes and yes. The Magpul stock is fully adjustable on a buffer tube that you cant see, its not just cosmetic, I generally run the stock one more position to the rear but its still fully functional the way you see it in the picture. the MBUS is temporary while I wait for my new front sight.

Love mine, got about 1000 rounds through it now and have only one issue. Every now and again i will pull the trigger and you get a light click and no bang, recock and pull trigger and it usually goes bang. Got to a point where it was happening every 3 shots or so. Decided that warranty was gonna be a waste of time so I dismantles the thing, quite basic internals, and found a bunch of bits of plastic. Cleaned it all out figuring it was getting in the way of the hammer. Reassembled and took it out. 50 rounds in it did it again and after 150 rounds it had done it twice. got home, tore it apart again and found more of these little bits of plastic, about the size of a mouse turd. Cant see anything else wrong. If it does it again i will probably deburr the hammer and throw the bolt in an ultrasonic cleaner and go from there.

The sights suck but with practice a two inch group at 50 yards is doable. Have a look on youtube at the guy that used a sprung hinge to mount a site. I did the same thing and I can now cut a ragged hole at 50 yards from a rest.

Fun gun to play with and mod and I plan on hunting with it this year with my reloads. If you reload and crony your ammo, its clear that 115 gr bullets are the best choice for this gun. The heavier bullets just seem to resist moving allowing the bolt to move back before maxx energy is put into the bullet.
